This is life as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA):

1:44 p.m. today:
An e-mail from a parishioner, upset with the latest shenanigans perpetrated by our General Assembly, with a warning: “I don’t know how much longer I can support this denomination…” She is especially grieved by the GA’s condemnation of the unilateral and preemptive nature of the war in Iraq.

3:26 p.m. today:
An e-mail from a family friend, subject line “Presbyterians ROCK!” lauding the General Assembly’s decision to pursue divesting from Israel as we did from South Africa during apartheid.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

Hey, if everyone’s happy, then you’re probably not preaching the gospel. Trouble is, if some are happy and some aren’t, you still may not be preaching the gospel.

I hear you! I could have used the title of your blog last week, although I was pretty much stuck by myself!

Glad you got the “Presby Rocks” email as I was going to forward it to you. Sorry you’re having to deal with the conflict though.
