We're all just doing the best we can in this life, and the fumbling moments and the heroic moments go hand in hand.

Indeed, they bring us down to our fundamental stuff. Thanks for sharing...

Catching up because I've been away--

thanks for your funeral story--

What I have come to love about funerals is finding some scripture that seems to tell the person's story. It's not the kind of thing the UCC Book of Worship, or your equivalent, can give to us. It comes from listening and the inspiration that has a chance to result if we have listened well.

The money thing is definitely odd. It almost feels like a tip. I had one experience in which the funeral expenses had been pre-paid by the gentleman and his wife many years before, and I received a check from the funeral home! They must include it in the "package."

I'm way ahead on baptisms, compared to weddings and funerals, and this last one was the first time I felt I really knew what I was doing and didn't feel wedded to my piece of paper. Something more authentic happens when you're not, I find. (Not that you'll ever catch me in the pulpit without one!)

You should really collect all of these writings and publish them. They are so wonderful to read.

By the way, speaking of baptisms, Jessie is going to be baptized tomorrow night (at our mid-week service). I am sure I will cry. I can't be believe she is getting big enough to makes such a mature decision. They grow up SO FAST.
