Yesterday in worship during the moment with the children the kids were given apples and asked to give them to the various teachers, principals and other educators out in the congregation, who were invited to stand and be recognized. It took one little 5-year-old a while to figure out what was going on, and by then, nobody was left standing. He kept glancing at his mother for help. He looked worried in this “I’m little and everyone?s looking at me and I don’t know what to do” way. Finally, while his back was turned, an elegant older woman in the second row stood up, holding her apple behind her back. The kid turned around, looked relieved, gave her his gift, and I thought, “That’s a good educator.”

A petite moment of grace.
