I wish I was cool enough to play Matt in a movie. Maybe I'll just stick to playing easier parts like...the son of GOD!!!!

i have to throw in my (late) two cents for who i think would play reverendmother in a movie: a brunette cynthia nixon (miranda from sex and the city). i think there's a huge physical resemblance, and both are feisty, strong women, so it seems like perfect casting to me :)

i'd also like to cast one vote for a scruffy jim caviezel (ca. count of monte cristo) for the actor that would play matt in a movie.

Going with my theme, I'll concede Albert Finney from Big Fish but I have to include Bill Cosby from the Cosby Show (although dad was more Cosby-esque with the grandkids than he was with us).

Ben Stiller strikes me as a really kinetic performer, which matches the tone of your blog--that is, ACTIVE!

Derek has elevated blogging to a contact sport. :-)

Jim Carrey does the manic doofus thing. Stiller has more of a bookish side. (Carrey fans, don't flame me--I saw and loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind--I'm just going on type here.)

I prefer the combination method myself.

let me try my hand at this:

Mamala has the awesome mother skills of both Dianne Wiest and Mary Steenburgen from "Parenthood," but most resembles Margot Kidder from the "Superman" movies.

Luke most resembles John C. Reilly from the "Boogie Nights" era, but has a sense of humor that exists somewhere between Ben Stiller and Christopher Guest.

Speaking of Christopher Guest, I think that dad most resembled a mix of Eugene Levy and a young Bob Gunton (the warden in 'Shawshank Redemption') with the fathering skills of Bill Cosby from the "Cosby Show."

I am probably a mix of Matthew Modine ;-) and "Pulp Fiction" era Eric Stoltz with the personality type of George Carlin, Bill Hicks, and Dave Barry.

Katie most resembles a mix of Sharon Stone, Genevieve (from the show 'Trading Spaces'), and Goldie Hawn. But her personality type is more of a Rene Russo type who's down to business when need be, but knows how to have a good time as well.

I've never met Dickie Cronkite, but I'd imagine a mix of Albert Brooks from "Broadcast News," Dustin Hoffman from "All the President's Men," with the humor stylings of Larry David or Ben Stiller.

Mr. Reverendmother is definitely a mix of Matthew Broderick and Zack Braff. Good call on that one. His personality is hard to nail down though since he's not a schlub like both Broderick and Braff. Maybe he's more like Zack Braff from "Scrubs" than "Garden State."

Reverendmother herself resembles a mix of 1980's Meryl Streep, "Primary Colors" era Emma Thompson, and Sarah McLachlin. Her personality type is probably a mix of those people too with a hint of Bob the Tomato from "Veggie Tales." Hey, she is a reverend after all.

I LOL at DC's suggestion simply because I have really short hair. Otherwise, Barbara Hershey is not a bad choice.

Of course I love Meryl and Vanessa for their acting chops. And in the "I wish" category, others have suggested Emma Thompson.

Diane Keaton...wow...I so like that choice for me.

And for you RM, a 30-something Meryl or maybe a 30-something Vanessa Redgrave.

And for Katie, the serious side of a 30-something Goldi Hawn. ;-)

A young Albert Brooks - that's awesome! (I don't look anything like that in person, but if I come across something like that on paper, then I guess I'm doing something right.)

For you RM I'd say a mid to late-80s Barbara Hershey, from the Hoosiers/Beaches era (do NOT go by the current IMDB photo - it's pretty scary. I'd get hate-commentary from you for months)

PS keep at it with the poetry - I'm a fan
