yeah, only a year. actually, it's unfortunate - i already see this place growing on me. a lot. but the market makes the chances slim to none that i'll be sticking around. at least i get the opportunity to bitch about the cold for one winter, right?

I have a friend who moved to Chicago last year after living in Texas almost his whole life. He adjusted. You're only going to be there a year, right? Maybe you can view it as an amusing novelty since it's short-term.

Ha - nice cricket-chirping reference, all it needed was an accompanying tumbleweed blowing by. But don't worry, RM. I don't tune out on the God prose. Actually, as a recovering Catholic I know exactly what you mean about the liturgical year and how it neatly fits in not only with the seasonal calendar, but the emotions of the season. (coincidence?) I like your observation of Pentecost as a sudden "flare" - I never viewed it like that even with all the flame imagery growing up.

(Can you talk to some of the higher-ups for me about the church doing something about eliminating winter? This is an issue I take particular interest in this year. It would be greatly appreciated.)
