You never know what you’re going to find in your mailbox. I’m doing another gift exchange through an on-line community I’m a part of, and have been waiting for a Valentine’s Day package to arrive. But Friday I received a large white envelope filled with papers dotted with arrow-shaped “please sign and return” post-it notes.
I’m going to be published in a book! Hee!
I, and about 20 other women that is, writing about the topic “Young Christian Women in Search of a Feminist Faith,” published by Pilgrim Press. I’m so proud of my sis-in-law, who is editing the book, and I’m proud to be a part of it. She’d asked me to write for it, and I put it off for a long time. Part of it was just not having time, part of it was feeling weird about the possibility of writing something that wasn’t right for the book, and putting my SIL in the position of writing my first rejection letter.
She came back to me several months after the deadline and said, “We have a lot of great essays, but we have nothing about motherhood. Can you please write something for us?” So I decided to go for it. But even then, I put it off. I finally decided that whatever happened, that it would be good for me to get some thoughts down. The process is the thing; the product is secondary. But of course, I’m glad it will be a part of the collection. I cannot wait to read what the other women have written. I wish we could all get together for a big bash, but it’ll have to do, sitting side-by-side within the pages of a book.
Oh believe me, this is big-time publishing. My payment is two (2) copies of the book. Ha! Who wants copy #2? (Yes, I’m going to give half of my riches away.)

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

I told some people about this project and they thought it sounded like a great program theme for Oprah! I will be buying the book(multiple copies probably) so please find someone who might not ever think of buying a book with this title to to give it to - I can think of a few people with national prominence!
Congratulations! That sounds like a great book to be part of. (I would ask for copy No. 2, but I think asking for international shipping would be going overboard! I’ll definitely look for it next time I’m in America, though.) What a great Valentine’s gift!
Copy #2, please, I want it. I’ll pay…
We are looking forward to seeing it all together as well! We will want autographed copies!!:)
That sounds wonderful!
(I just realized I’m not young anymore. Ouch.)
I will look forward to acquiring my own copy when it comes out. Congratulations!
Impressive! Congratulations! All publishing is big-time, especially if it is in an actual bound book, manufactured somewhere other than Kinko’s. How about saving copy number 2 to be placed in your presidential library at some future time?
Congratulations!!! What’s the title of the book to be–so we can seek it out? I’ll get my copy signed in May??
I’m also jealous that you count as young.
Two copies of the book isn’t bad payment. My sister once submitted a chapter to a book and received a copy of it when it came out—and a bill 2 weeks later for the book!!!
The book isn’t coming out until the fall (or later–seems like the publishing industry can be slower than church sometimes!). And they’re still working out the title. But I’ll let you know for sure!
Congrats! The first of many, I am sure.
And I’ll try to use my “influence” on Oprah.
Hey! When are you going to get your own blog, ChicagoRev?
Yeah, ChicagoRev…
Try starting with the Oscar picks…
My own blog? I have been talking about that for a while haven’t I? How do you do it? I sometimes think that you and RealLivePreacher must both have alter egos. How can you both pastor congregations, have a life, and blog?
I still want to do it and hopefully will. I’ve done some practice entries, trying to find my voice.
But right now either the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus or(newsflash) John are taking up most of my spare time.
Mamala, I missed doing the Oscar email last year, but it truly requires three things: that I see most of the nominated films, that I study up on the short subjects, etc. and that I take about 8 hours to craft that email. So far, that’s just not looking possible between now and the 27th. I will say that “Hotel Rwanda” and “Finding Neverland” to me were far more rewarding film experiences than “The Aviator,” which though very well made and well acted is just too much of a “movie.” I haven’t seen “Ray.” I loved “Being Julia” and found “Kinsey” rather clinical, but interesting nonetheless, with great performances.
Go to Journalscape’s home page and you can set it up in about two minutes. I think it has the best and easiest interface, and some really nice features (subscription is one). Blogger is also pretty easy; I have some friends there.
Oh, RLP is in a whole ‘nother category. It is hard to find time, but I like blogging because I wouldn’t do *any* writing if I didn’t have the blog to kind of nudge me to do it. It’s a fun outlet.
Thanks for the push over the edge…NotShyChiRev is born.
