Because it’s all the rage at journalscape and I am a hopeless conformist.
Actually, because it’s fun.

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

I’ve done #2, #6 (I think) and, #10.
Top five things I plan to do upon hearing RM’s met Sting (and I haven’t)
1. Walk around the apartment muttering and grumbling under my breath.
2. Take a shower to try and relax, then thrash down the shower curtain in an uncontrollable fury and yell, “Why couldn’t it have been me??!”
3. Sit and contemplate my navel…until I remember RM’s met Sting and I haven’t and the whole exercise dissolves into bitter envy.
4. Go buy a pet goldfish, name it “Sting,” and laugh in a scary maniacal fashion, marveling at my problem-solving abilities.
5. Consult a psychiatrist
I’ve only done 6 and 7 (though most of mine have not been published). (Back in Chicago.) [And I almost did this fad on the plane.]
First, you have funny blog friends. More blogs to check out I suppose. Second, I just can’t get it out of my head that you met Sting and Maya Angelou at the same event. I know that’s not what you said, but I’m picturing….oh never mind.
Ten things I’ve done, with no claims at uniqueness
1. given birth four times, all of them medicated
2. visited Brazil, Japan, Mexico and Canada
3. worked three jobs when my first marriage was falling apart
4. eaten sweetened condensed milk by the spoonful (man that stuff makes me feel diabetic)
5. attended Woodstock (the 1999 version)
6. watched television
7. written a yearly letter to friends and family for over 20 years (but haven’t since my children’s father passed away)
8. been a vegetarian
9. met Christopher Hitchens, H. L. Hunt, and sat on the second row at a Metallica concert
10. completed this silly “ten things” thing
one twice! Does cool whip count as icing? Was on tv when I was a little kid twice, first time in the audience of Chuckles the Clown and second at a peace march on the news.
Ten things I’ve done:
1. Rock rapelling (my shirt got caught and I had to cut it apart with a pocketknife)
2. Had a conversation with Nobel Peace Prize winner Betty Williams
3. Hiked to the top of a volcano
4. Participated in a candelight vigil in front of the (Indiana) governor’s mansion protesting the death penalty
5. Had one letter to the editor published (so far)
6. Worked as a monster at Knott’s Berry Farm Halloween Haunt
7. Thought about being a vegetarian
8. Watched my wife give birth twice, once without medication
9. Directed youth summer camp
10. Completed this silly ‘ten things’ thing.
Dickie! Go to your happy place!
I didn’t have tea with the guy or anything. Nor was there a meaningful conversation by any stretch. But, there were only five or six people there, and I was close enough to see the stubble. And I got his ‘graph. I will tell you the rest of the story (what little there is) over a Chicken Whatsit sandwich at That Place.
PPB, I met Maya Angelou in high school, and got to talk to her for a few minutes. Man, does she rock like the canned frosting.
Ten things I’ve done….
1) Given birth via Cesarean Section twice
2) Fallen back first onto a hot barbeque grill …sorry revernedmother
3) Graduated from college in just 3 1/2 years (magna cum laude)
4) Quit my job and started my own business
5) Homeschooled 2 children
6) Married my high school sweetheart
7) Totaled a car
9) Rode on the “People Mover” at Disneyland about 50+ times in one day (hi M & L!)
10) Fainted
Danny, re: #8 - was it you or your wife who was unmedicated?
I want to know how rm is implicated in the backward onto a grill fall!!! My list includes very little indicating moral or physical fitness, mostly brief brushes with fame.
First, it’s important to say that she fell and bumped against it, not on top of it (otherwise you’re picturing grill marks on her back). It was a short, narrow staircase with two stubborn sisters walking up it, not wanting to budge for the other… I’m three years older–Katie didn’t stand a chance. But alas, if she had just recognized her rightful place and let the firstborn go ahead of her… so much heartache would have been avoided.
And as an eldest sister, I completely understand and agree with your assessment.
I happen to be an older sister as well, and I have always found it my obligation and great joy to protect my younger siblings.
RM, you went to High School with Maya?
1. Been birthed while Mamala was medicated, but I wasn’t.
2. Stopped over in Alaska on a layover. I saw the mountains from the airport window.
3. Working one job senior year of college. managing a 2.5 gpa thus far.
4. Helped Revmom, Katieg, and Luke eat cans of frosting. I prefer to do it with Graham Crackers.
5. Performed the House of Pain song, “Jump Around” in front of 1,500 people. THAT was a blast, and probably my coolest moment ever.
6. Been on television, although it was while I was in the Marine Corps and marching in the Rose Bowl Parade.
7. Written a few letters to the editor for the school paper here at UNT. They sucked though…both the letters and the paper itself.
8. Been a vegetarian as well. I remember when you had to go to the Dr. because you weren’t getting enough iron (I think it was iron)
9. Met Warren Moon, Hakeem Olajuwon (all the Rockets for that matter), the Fab Five from ‘Queer Eye’, and Billie Jean King.
10. Completed a rip-off of your Ten Silly Things.
Well, I can’t resist this one! Ten things I’ve done:
1. taught a first and second grade mixed-age class
2. attended a national meeting of my church’s
denomination (with RM)
3. heard RM preach to a crowd of 1,500 (she rocks
like frosting and Maya!)
4. broken my leg in a car accident
5. served food and beverages to pro football players
while they were in summer training (Warren Moon
among them)
6. played Auntie to my petite CGs when they were wee
ones
7. climbed to the higest point east of the
Mississippi (also with RM…hmmmmm…I see a
trend here)
8. sung at Carnegie Hall (Mozart’s Requiem)
9. met Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men, Pretty in
Pink) after a Broadway show (Brighton Beach
Memoirs)
10. seen the following people in shows on Broadway:
Matthew Broderick, Betty Buckley (remember her
from Eight is Enough?), Sutton Foster, Antonio
Banderas, Chita Rivera, Jane Krakowski, and the
Tony-award-winning cast from Hairspray
CGAuntie, RM, et al…I’ve given in. Pop over to my place and see my list…(blatant self-promotion now concluded).
