I’m heading to Presbyterian Mecca tomorrow for a few days. (Those who care, know; those who don’t know, don’t care.)
I’m meeting with a group of young pastor colleagues to talk about some of the issues that have troubled the denomination of late. Five of us are on the liberal/progressive end of things, four on the evangelical/conservative end. (They had a fifth; she had a family conflict and couldn’t make it this time.) Regardless of where we stand on some of the hot button issues, we all love the PC(USA), and we love one another—so how will it not be great?
Here’s a funny thing—due to lots of unfortunate but completely understandable circumstances, I will be the only woman in attendance. This has greatly troubled the two guys who have spearheaded this thing. Ideally there would be some balance. But I keep trying to assure them, I’m like three women. Heh!
And besides, this way I am guaranteed my own room. The R&R will be very nice. And Mr. RM gets a special props for not grumbling even once about my being away.

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

Blessings on the journey.
Let the love flow.
Peace…
really, i care. i just don’t know…
Hmmm…. I’m wondering what the “evangelical/conservative” end of the PC is like (as compared to your “evangelical/conservative” sister)
Have a wonderful time with your colleagues. I’d enjoy hearing what the group discussed. I’m glad you are getting a bit of R&R.
How cool that people with opposing viewpoints are still willing to sit down and talk - not scream and point fingers.
Mr. RM sounds like a great guy!
Good Luck!
Go for it. You can show those guys some new directions.
Heck, I can go —sign me up!
Oh, crap, I’m no longer a young pastor.
If I wore lots of Oil of Olay could I go? I have an Ipod—surely that shaves off a couple of years?
Katieg’s my favorite evangelical/conservative.
maybe young at heart?
Have fun in Presbyterianland.
So did you ever come back or are you still being decent and in order?
I’m back! Thanks for checking on me PPB.
Presbyterian Mecca
It was a wonderful weekend. Lots of good discussion, lots of laughter and fellowship (to use a good churchy word). The fact that we all knew one another from seminary, and we genuine like one another, yet were very diverse theologically, made the conversation very interesting, honest and fruitful. I just had a great time with the boys. Nobody changed their mind on anything–that wasn’t the point–but we now have a much better appreciation of where the other “side” is coming from.
Okay, this shows you what a northerner I am. I assumed that the mecca was Louisville. And if not Louisville, well then maybe Ghost Ranch. Never been to Montreat. Now you’ve got me thinking that I really had wanted to go back to the ranch this summer. So much to do, so little vacation time. (That brain fart is now over and we return to the regularly scheduled program) Hope your stay in the other mecca was good.
