In my mind, this is what normal people do on a Sunday—wake up, lie around for a while, have a leisurely breakfast, read the paper, maybe mosey on to a house of worship if that’s their cup of tea. We got to be normal today, and it was great. Today was youth Sunday and senior pastor didn’t think we both needed to be there, so I got the morning off. Some churches give their pastors a Sunday or two off during the year, in addition to vacation, for the purpose of attending another service of worship. It’s nice just to be a person in the pews. It’s nice not to have to leave the house at 7:30 in the morning and it’s nice to be home before 1:30.

In fact, between this coming weekend’s CG trip and a conference and vacation in June, I will only be at church two weekends out of the next six. I might like it too much to go back!

We had a social weekend too—had a couple over for dinner on Friday (we graduated from the same seminary, although no overlap), and it was fun to see C with their son, who’s 6 months younger. Then tonight we had an early bite with Dickie! That would be blogger meeting #4 for me. I am really into the meeting bloggers thing, it is great fun and I haven’t been disappointed yet. Very nice guy, and willing to eat dinner ridiculously early so I could attend a 7:30 meeting.

Here’s a stale news event—Finding Neverland is a lovely movie. You should go out and see it. That is, stay in and rent it. That is, if there’s actually anyone out there who’s even less current than we are.

Here are some new google searches. I get numerous searches for variations on

I’m so glad you liked Finding Neverland. It was my favorite movie last year.

So, I’m not sure, did you actually “mosey on over” to a UU church near you? ;-)

  2. 2 Dickie_Cronkite

Hey, it was great meeting you and “R” and little “C” - right back at you!

For those readers who enjoy All C, All the Time, you can read Dickie’s account of our meeting, in which he confirms what we all know–C is an adorable child. Of course you must skim through his amusing ramble about deer, canoes, Coors, and the nature of God. Or something.

You know, after our dinner I was ready to write a long post about the nature of blog friendships and some such, but when it came down to it, I wasn’t sure what to say. Dickie sums up the dynamic well–you know much of a person’s interior life from blogging, but you don’t know basic stuff like, where the person grew up. So you end up filling in the blanks. But truly, what a great future this guy has. Smart, personable, easy-going.

Mamala, we actually went to another Presbyterian church that was nearby. I know, boring, but we were not feeling adventurous.

I had a “civilian Sunday” yesterday, too. Slept late, ate breakfast, lingered over coffee, read the paper, went for a morning walk, helped DH with the yard work, caught up on watching Tivo…Ah…! God bless study leave.

Glad you had some time to worship in another church with your family.

You are way ahead of me with the movies. I haven’t been to a movie theater in two years. And, I haven’t rented in months. I’ve been too busy, but I can see movie-watching time looming on the horizon. You’ll have to help me sift through the years of missed movies to find the stuff worth watching.

  6. 6 Songbird

Oh, you guys/gals, I would have *loved* a day off yesterday! If I hadn’t been preaching, I could easily have pulled the covers up over my head. The rain here just will not stop!!!!

  7. 7 Songbird

Also, we loved Finding Neverland, especially the dog. And Johnny Depp, who is my other celebrity crush.

  8. 8 Mamala

Why is it that it makes me happy that Dickie was impressed with our little “C”? I was going to tell him so on his blog, but I thought having a gram-ma (MaDear) post a comment would seriously cramp his style…

  9. 9 Preacher Mom

When I was a child - a PK at that - my parents always insisted that we attend church even on vacation. It didn’t matter how loudly my siblings and I protested. Now that I’m the preacher, I’ve had twinges of guilt on those vacation Sundays when I have chosen NOT to go to church anywhere. What kind of Preacher Mom am I?! What am I teaching my poor little PK’s?! However, I am now convinced that I am learning - and demonstrating - the true nature of sabbath on those rare, blessed days. Three weeks til my next sabbath!
