   the hottest i’ve ever been in my whole life was in palm desert california. hope it’s more moderate for you!

   i did learn some mighty lessons from the joshua trees which aren’t far from there. if they have no stress in their lives they grow like a telephone pole—straight, tall, and boring. if they get bent, bruised, or broken, they branch, so they become ever-so-interesting to the eye.

   i also came to understand certain passages in the Bible about the protection afforded by rocks. the shadow of a big rock in the desert can make a big difference on a hot day and when i hid in the cleft of a rock i thought about … who was it that hid in the cleft of a rock while God passed by? if i had a memory i might be dangerous.

   It’s no coincidence U2 put a song called “God’s Country” on an album called “The Joshua Tree.”
