survey courtesy of the RevGals:
1) Did you cook/bake anything for Thanksgiving?
I made absolutely nothing, but my brother’s girlfriend made delicious cider and a spinach/goat cheese salad with fruit. My sister made the wonderful green bean casserole and didn’t muck it up with extraneous herbs and junk. Just green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk and french fried onions. Mom made mashed potatoes. Yum.
R’s big triumph was the high roast turkey which involves butterflying, brining and only 90 minutes in the oven. The disadvantage of high-roast is the fat drips down and smokes, so you solve that by putting the pan of cornbread dressing underneath the turkey to catch the goodness.
Have I mentioned how thankful I am to have a husband that cooks?
He also made impeccable gravy, sweet potatoes, and we had rolls and cranberry sauce courtesy of Sister Schubert and Ocean Spray, respectively. Cranberry sauce ain’t cranberry sauce unless it’s cylindrical with ridges.
Dessert–chocolate pie and our traditional pumpkin/pecan pie made in a springform pan. It was a work of art.
2) How was it received?
With multiple trips to the kitchen for seconds.
3) Anything left over?
A little of most everything, although I realized we’re out of bread for sandwiches. Faux pas!
Today we will finish everything off with some Trader Joe’s soups while trimming the tree (a little early but how could I not take advantage of all this help?).
4) Best use of Thanksgiving leftovers ever.
R is downstairs making pancakes with the leftover bit of canned pumpkin.
5) Worst use of Thanksgiving leftovers ever.
I can’t say we’ve had any disasters… they don’t stick around long enough for us to get creative.

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

It sounds delicious!
I think you are wise to trim the tree now. My chaplain friend expected a new granddaughter December 4th; the baby arrived yesterday!
Your meal sounds quite heavenly — and I agree entirely about the cranberry sauce!
Enjoy today!!
Sounds like it was delicious, and R is indeed a prince of a guy!
We had 50+ people over to my in-law’s house in Qatar. Everyone brought something, and cuisines represented inlcuded Indian, Sri Lankan, Chinese, Sudanese, Mexican, Lebanese, Turkish, Southern American, Sweidsh American, Midwestern American…you get the picture. Lots of congenial adults and faschinating conversations and some adorable little ones, who reminded me of my own kids and grandkids (and C). I do miss them a bit.
I think it’s wonderful that you’re getting ready for Christmas now - gives you a chance to breathe a bit and await the reverendbaby!
We want R’s pumpkin pancake recipe, BTW.
Sounds like a very great day. I love the green bean casserole, too, but no one in my family likes it so I was deprived.
Note: Karen C posted a great comment here, and it related to the hospital rant, so I took the liberty of moving it there, as well as my response. Thanks for visiting!
I wish my husband was a good cook. I’m quite jealous.
