“Are you STILL HERE?!?!”

Yes, I am. Yesterday at church, three people asked me that—before the 8:30 service had even started. I told the last person that everyone who asked me that would have to pay me a dollar. You know that good-natured tone that also means business? I think I nailed it. Nobody else asked me the rest of the morning. Coincidence? You decide.

Boy have I got the energy today! Woo-hoo! Errands! Gift wrapping! Vacuuming! Oh my! Those of you familiar with the old wives’ tale that a burst of energy often immediately precedes labor will be encouraged by this news. I can also add that I woke up in the wee hours with some contractions, which subsided. With C, I experienced the exact same thing, then went into labor the following night. Hmmm…

However, I am expecting the big event to be days away. Perhaps it is the fact that Baby Jesus is very slowly starting to catch up in the poll, perhaps it is my own game of lowering expectations so I’m not disappointed, perhaps it is the fact that C was a week late, but I am preparing for the long haul. And that’s OK.

In other news, we went to see Narnia: LWW yesterday. Very nicely done. I was quite pleased. You see, he’s not a tame lion. There’s that initial jarring moment when Aslan talks and one is like, “Whoa! Schindler!” (if you’re me) or “Whoa! Darkman!” (if you’re R). But after that the voice works beautifully.

I absolutely adored Tumnus. The children were all excellent too, especially Lucy. I was mixed about the witch. In the books she is drop-dead beautiful–that’s part of what makes her enchanting, right? And it’s not that Tilda Swinton isn’t beautiful, but they were definitely playing up the evil and creepy angle. They needed to Galadriel her up about, oh, 25% or so.

I was struck by the pace of the movie. Compared to the frenetic, “gotta fit it all in” pace of the Harry Potter movies, which are based on much longer books, this movie was almost contemplative.

That’s all for now.

Nesting….and your wanna be doula so far away ~sighs~ I am lighting a candle for you tonight. You and yours are in my prayers but especially you.

Nesting. Yes, definitely nesting. I’m going to light a cranberry scented candle for you right now…

It’s St Lucy’s day today…used to be the shortest day, the time of greatest darkness. Also the day when Darling Daughter tried to appear early on the scene (she finally, and punctually, arrived on 14th January), so while I was fussed and fretted over in the hospital, only to be sent home when everything calmed down, I contemplated Lucy in her crown of candles and wondered if I might possibly be carrying a daughter. And now my own child of light, Lucinda, is nearly 19…and she does shine for me. Prayers and blessings today, and for the days to come xx

Good for you on the I’m-smiling-but-not-in-a-nice-way tone. Hope it keeps on working!

First I have to say that I just signed up for bloglines (to be able to read while I’m at my folks), and Journalscape is winning some prizes because you can see the comments in bloglines, but only with Journalscape—wonder what’s up with that?

Second, why would you waste a perfectly good energy spurt on vacuuming?

Third, I don’t think the poll is scientific, and besides, baby Jesus is already born (That whole already-not yet thing, I know)

Fourth, today is Lucia Day! Lots of light and candles and love! Little girls in white dresses with candles in their hair (yeah, that’s a good idea) Surely this bodes well for a happy day today where you either give birth or sit around watching TV, eating bon-bons and staring at your navel! Either one works for me.

Danggit! I am reading this at work where we are not allowed to light candles (fire hazard). I am going to Gratefulness.org to light a candle for you now…hang on…

Done it! I love Gratefulness’s candles because they will minimize into a little box that stays on your desktop until you close it.

I’ve never had a baby so never had those comments, but I can think of a lot of fun smarty pants things to say back.

They say, “Are you still here?! and you say, “No! I’m not! I’m in Narnia with Mr. Tumnus!” then you teedle away…skipping maybe -

or you say (scared voice) “I don’t know! Am I? I can’t really figure that out! Can you help me!?”

or you say (surprised voice) “Hey! What am I doing HERE?! I’m leaving this minute!” then march out the door.

Of course, if these are parishioners maybe you better not say that. But it’s fun to think about. ;)

    And today??

    Present!

As much as I would enjoy a day like PPB proposed, I actually started at 9:30 this morning and will go at least to 9:30 tonight–session meeting. But my butt-kicking attitude continues. Got all the gifts shipped, the avalanche of cardboard in the basement has been recycled, and I got a very short, practical haircut.

    Blessings and love from Finland.

St Lucia’s day today. We had the carol service - with an awful solo soprano - I vow we will NOT invite her next year. Can’t think why she was invited this year, and I already set things in motion. One reader was late and you know what I didn’t panic or fuss. Must have been God at work

but I’m with ppb vacuuming ? cum on - a productive day and nesting is one thing, but vacuuming!!! (grin) if you start ironing too - call me and I’ll ship ours over to you by express delivery!!!

seriously prayer and love, we are here for you a circle of friends to carry you spiritually through labour. We love you :)

Glad you liked the movie — my sons plan to see it with me, so we are all waiting to see it together. Try getting us together to see a movie — what a task :)
