…the blog, that is.

This site is 2 years old today. What an auspicious date for milestones! reverendbaby, I’m looking in your direction

My first post was a very strange cataloguing of Christmas songs. In honor of that humble beginning, here is the RevGal Friday Five, similarly themed:

1) If you had to choose CDs as a soundtrack for the Christmas season, what would they be?

Vince Guaraldi Trio’s Charlie Brown Christmas
John Denver and the Muppets, A Christmas Together
Jim Morgan, Advent (piano solos)
Winter Solstice 1, 2, and 3
Ella (Fitzgerald) Wishes You a Swingin’ Christmas

2) How do you feel about singing all the verses of “The First Noel?” (Six in our hymnal, but apparently there are nine.)

I do love that song, but six or nine verses seems like a bit much.

3) “O, Come All Ye Faithful” has a lot of verses, too. Which is your favorite?

“Sing, choirs of angels” is my favorite because the descant is glorious.

4) What music do you play while opening presents?

See #1 above, and I also love Mel Torme’s Christmas Songs

5) Which carols do you consider to be Christmas Eve essentials?

Once in Royal David’s City, Silent Night, Joy to the World! (although we’re singing that on Christmas day)

It’s a bit of a dark horse, but I love Hark the Herald Angels Sing on Christmas Eve as well.

and a Bonus Question:

6) What, if any, is your favorite secular Christmas song?

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Hands down. I have a fondness for melancholy Christmas songs, which you will see if you visit my first entry.

Which baby do you think will arrive first?

Well, glad though we are to hear your choice of Christmas music, I must say I was nearly beside myself with excitement when I saw that you had updated after a decent period of silence…

    (Sings)Come on, Reverend Baby

    Mummy longs to meet you

So does your Daddy and your sibling dear.

    Out in the blogworld

    Friends are waiting for you.

    So come on Reverend Baby

    So come on Reverend Baby

    So come on Reverend Baby

    It’s time you were here!

  2. 2 reverendmother

    Great one!!!!

  3. 3 anne

i wonder just how long it will be before my pulse slows. are you having a good chuckle abt the flurry of excitement this blog raised?

merry christmas eve eve day (or does that rush the advent season too much to offer that greeting?).

  4. 4 Keith

Well, now you’re just toying with us.

  5. 5 reverendmother

Here’s a tip for the sake of everyone’s health–the title of the “I’m in labor” post that I’ve got ready for the big moment is in ALL CAPS.

    No caps, no labor.

  6. 6 What Now?

    Happy blogiversary indeed!

  7. 7 Lorna

    ROFL

you had me there. And it’s Christmas Eve already here too!!

    blessings

    Kathryn loved your song :)

OH and Congrats on the blog birthday

  8. 8 spookyrach

    HA!

I love the Charlie Brown Christmas music, too. (My family is going to think I’ve got problems ((or an internet affair)) when they catch me sneaking off to check your blog over the next couple of days. Thanks a lot!)

  9. 9 ppb

But what if you FORGET to put up a post? Couldn’t you just phone each of us individually?

RB: No fun to share a birthday with JC—really, honey, come on out. I have candy….

  10. 10 Mindy

ppb has a point revbaby. You do not want your b-day to be lost in all of the choas and confusion.

Maybe you have a revdiva on your hands RM.

  11. 11 Katherine

I’m right there with you on the melancholy Christmas songs. Have you heard Aimee Mann’s version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas? It totally captures the angstiness of the song. Also, can’t forget River for sad Christmas songs.

Congrats on your blogiversary, and for heaven’s sake, I hope that child arrives soon! I voted for the reverendbaby to beat Baby Jesus, and I don’t like to be wrong!

  12. 12 NotShyChiRev/ChicagoRev

If you are going for melancholy at Christmas…

Sting’s “The Angel Gabriel From Heaven Came” and Alison Moyet’s “Coventry Carol” are two of my favorites of more the contemporary encounters with Advent/Christmas/Epiphany carols.

  13. 13 Sue

    Happy blog birthday reverendmother!!

Come on reverendbaby — listen to your mama — it’s time for your birthday too!!

  14. 14 apstraight

You’re right- John Denver, Rolf the Dog- it just doesn’t get better than that…

It’s cold and snowy- who can blame Reverend Baby for wanting to stay in?

Personally, I think that a late Christmas Eve service would be a wonderful made-for-TV moment to go into labor (of course, then you have to get stuck in an elevator or snowstorm, but the huge advantage of TV labor is that it’s always over within 30 minutes…)

Thinking of you and wishing you total joy-

    Apstraight

    Happy blog anniversary!

Can we bribe that baby with some Christmas presents?

  16. 16 Lorna

    Blessings

  17. 17 Mary Beth

It’s Christmas Day (observed) at my house today. My waking thoughts, in order:

    1) did the 3 year old dog eat the new puppy overnight?

    2) why is it so cold in here!?

    3) Hey! Did Reverendmother hatch yet?

    4) O, Christmas! and other appropriate prayerful thoughts…

  18. 18 reverendmother

I’m honored to be #3, Mary Beth! But no hatching.

  19. 19 Mr. Cloudy

Congratulations on the 2 year milestone. It is obvious, but still worth saying, that you provide a lot of hospitality through this site, and it is true community.

  20. 20 Sherry

I once had to do CPR on someone in church during the Easter service….I have always had a secret fear that one day it would come full circle and I would be dealing with a woman in labor in church during the Christmas Eve service.

I wonder if Mary had the “false” labor pains while trying to find that manger.

  21. 21 Dickie_Cronkite

Happy anniversary. OK RM, we’re gonna make blog history here.

    Hear me out:

    Live, up-to-the-minute blogging during labor.

Waddya think? You would be the first-ever Blogger Giving Birth. …! Totally WaPo Style Section material, and it sure beats Lamaz (sp). Just say the word.

    Happy Holidays from the Cronkites.

  22. 22 Lorna

    Blessed Christmas Rev Mother

  23. 23 StCasserole

    Merry Christmas and Happy Bloganniversary!

Thinking of you and sending birthing mercies in your direction!

  24. 24 spookyrach

Back again on Christmas morning! Happy Christmas!!

  25. 25 fridaymom

I had to wait until I got to work to comment on this post. For some reason, the home computer (completely screwed up now after I fixed the little “virus” problem) won’t allow your comment box to “pop” up.

Happy bloggiversary. It has been a blast blogging with you and all the others. Glad you’re here!

And Merry Christmas to all of you….may RB make her appearance soon!!!!

  26. 26 Emily

    Merry Blogiversary and Happy Christmas!

  27. 27 Mindy Princess of Everything

Might I point out that I voted that Baby Jesus would have a birthday before Revbaby?

So, do I get to name her?? Huh huh? I pick good names!!

  28. 28 Songbird

Oh, gosh, reverendbaby! Hurry up! Christmas Day is a bad enough birthday, but don’t keep us waiting until Slaughter of the Innocents!

  29. 29 mibi52

Just got back from Chicago, and the first thing I did (after dealing with the cats’ litter box) was to check if revbaby had arrived yet. How’s that for obsessive blogpaldom?

  30. 30 anne

i thought her name would be natalie and that she’d be born today. you still have a couple of hours. natalie sounds good w/ c.

  31. 31 Lorna

obsessive RevGal friendship here too. I just read Rev to be Mibi’s entry in a light blazes and how she too was expecting a child anyminute over Christmas - how her son was born on Jan 2nd :)

It’s been fun to do revbaby watch with you - but I do hope we aren’t becoming like the congregation with our *are you still here ?* because my heart says simply *we are still here with you Rev mother - on baby watch,*

Praying for you and your daughter and thanking God that He knows the time and the place until you know it too - be blessed !

  32. 32 mibi52

Lorna, Litigator was my first (and first babies are notorious for being later than their due date) and he has ALWAYS been notorious for doing things the way HE wants to do them, so I don’t want RM to be thinking revbaby won’t come until a week after Christmas!

  33. 33 Lorna

wow what lovely colours. Mibi my son (firstborh) was born one day early whereas my daughter was one week late and kept us waiting over the 1st May holiday - which is a big (non religious) celebration here in Finland. She arrived May 4th, but when she decided to arrive there was very little warning!! lol

  34. 34 spookyrach

How ’bout a New Year’s arrival? First baby of 2006, etc. etc.?

  35. 35 Phantom Scribbler

I came to check on reverendbaby. She’d better show up before the next Wednesday whine rolls around. No one will be able to compete with you otherwise.

    Happy birthday blogiversary!
