Top ten reasons why the reverendbaby did not come on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day:
10. Deference to her Lord and Savior.
9. Mother did not have access to a donkey, or a need to travel to her husband’s town of origin for a census.
8. Decided that Christmas dinner—ham with brown sugar/mustard glaze, wild rice pilaf with pecans and cranberries, mashed sweet potatoes, spinach casserole, homemade rolls, waldorf salad, potato salad, deviled eggs and cheesecake—would taste much better filtered through a placenta than it would as breastmilk.
7. To give her big sister one last chance to rule the Christmas roost.
6. She knows her parents will not be able to afford the therapy bills brought about by being a PK with a Christmas birthday.
5. She was a little freaked out by all the noisy toys C got for Christmas this year.
4. Was not a fan of the hand-me-down “Santa suit” a member of the church gave her.
3. Likes the incongruity of family and friends receiving holiday letters/birth announcements on Christmas tree paper in mid-January.
2. To ensure that the parody of “Once in Royal David’s City” that her mother was writing in honor of a Christmas birth would never see the light of day.
and the #1 reason why the reverendbaby did not come on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day:
1. To prove that the wisdom of a fetus surpasses that of the polltaking masses on the internet.

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

Forget poetry, rm, I think it’s time for RevGal stand-up comedy. “The Late Show with Reverendmother.” Has a nice ring.
Well, it’s either laugh or cry here at Baby Watch Headquarters. After a peaceful Christmas Eve and Day, we had some wonderfully intense contractions starting at 3:30 this morning, that persisted even after I got up (around 5:30). They grew stronger, longer and closer together–then screeched to a heartbreaking halt. No amount of walking, resting, sitting on birth ball, or homeopathics could coax them to resume.
For those keeping track, this all began 12 days ago.
If there’s any justice in the world, I have completed most of my active labor; my water will break, I’ll head to the hospital, and RB will arrive on the scene, what, 90 minutes later.
RM says If there’s any justice in the world, I have completed most of my active labor; my water will break, I’ll head to the hospital, and RB will arrive on the scene, what, 90 minutes later.
Yes, RM, let it be so.
Hohoho!!!
I love your Top Ten, especially #6. And just think, if she arrives just after Christmas, you may even have the day off on her birthday, year after year. That has a certain appeal.
sometimes when it’s time to sleep and i can’t settle down i realize that there’s someone i’m called to be praying for and that’s why i’m awake (even though i’m tired and sleepy), so i’m assuming that someone is you and rb. God, give traveling mercies to these wonderful women as they set out on their mother-daughter journey together. amen.
(now if i’m able to go to sleep, i’ll know it was you two that needed to be prayed for. if not, i’ll go down the list of everyone else ’til i get to sleep. sweet dreams.
1) Can I have the recipe for wild rice pilaf with pecans and cranberries?
2) Happy about the no-birthday-on-December-24-or-25 reality. A wonderful thing.
Many blessings this week. This is the week, don’t you think?
PS - Love the pink & green.
Oh, Reverendmother, I hope the next post is a baby announcement!
And I second the recipe request.
lol
I loved this post!
blessings and love
Well, as someone who is wrong about most things, I’m glad revbaby took pity on me and decided to emerge after the Christmas madness had subsided…And as for your longing for justice, something very very much like this DID happen for me when TeenWonder was born. Praying that’s how it is for you right now. Hugs xx
