We went to church yesterday. It was great to worship again and I realized how much I’ve missed the people there. Everyone enjoyed meeting the divine Miss M, who slept the whole time. Of course, Senior Pastor wanted to come over today and start filling me in–gah! I still have five weeks of leave left! I got her to send me an e-mail instead. It is very nice to be missed.

The parish associate preached, a wonderful American Baptist pastor with wonderful presence and great boundaries (my mentor in this area) and he related a story about a friend of his who told him about a miraculous experience he’d had. He said, “At other times of my life I would have doubted some details of this story; now I am learning how to doubt my doubts.”

Doubt the doubts. That really speaks to me.

I am in the process of re-publishing my blog using different software. R is helping me because I’m not going with Typepad or Blogger–we will host it ourselves. I don’t understand it all (can you tell?) but what I have wanted is a couple additional features and a way to pretty up the place, all while retaining some of the great features of journalscape. (E-mail subscribers, bloglines readers, you will still be able to do that, for example.) But I didn’t want to move unless I could take everything with me–posts and comments–and R was able to solve that problem for me. Unfortunately, he was up half the night doing it. He does that sometimes–stays up really late with an interesting technical problem to solve. I’ll startle awake and realize he’s not in bed, call downstairs and he usually sounds like he’s having the time of his life. Of course the next day he has to sleep it off a bit. It’s like he goes on a Nerd Bender.

Gotta go–having lunch with some friends, then it’s M’s two-month pediatric visit. Can’t believe she’s two months old today!

Nerd benders *are* fun. Though mine usually revolve around SW instead of computers.

I love the term “nerd benders”. Been on plenty, in my time.

    “nerd bender”–heh heh.

Our husbands are indeed cut from the same nerd cloth. :-)

Oh yeah - nerd bender is the perfect term!

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Omigosh! That is exactly what happens to my guy. He went on a *major* nerd bender when he updated our church’s website.

Hard to step in and step out of church life, isn’t it? I’m glad you were able to keep it all at bay for a little while longer. Hope all goes well at the pediatrician’s visit. Does C come along to keep her sister company?

As for nerd moments, there was a time many moons ago when I was a computer nerd. Alas, the technology has left me in the dust, so I’m limited to what Blogspot can do. I’ll be interested to see your new bloglook!

Congrats on the 2 months! It has gone fast hasn’t it?

I can’t believe that you have only five weeks until you go back to work… in Finland the paid maternity leave is for 9 months after the birth. Sorry but it is.

    wow…2 months!

as for the “nerd bender” (which is by far the best term I’ve heard lately), Jason totally does that with his website and with weird photo-editing things. He just switched to blogger software (hosting on his own site) so he would get more sleep. LOL.

Ah, glad you are not rushing back into things. It will all come soon enough. I’m glad things are going well for the Divine Miss M. and the rest of you too.

    Nerd Bender….woman….you are a genius….

  13. 13 Songbird

How many of us revgals have partners/spouses who are prone to the nerd bender? It might make an interesting survey question.

Love the nerd bender thing. That’s me. I admit. But I refuse to admit it’s a problem.

Should we hold an intervention for FM?

Hosting your own blog is way cool! I’ve been toying with the idea myself but chez Grace I’m the nerd who will have to go on the bender.
