when your friend holds the hose
(giggling at the portable rainbow)
and waves it innocently in your face,
you
spring back,
and the mist on your cheeks goes salty.
that same day, on the front porch,
in the triangle of Daddy’s lap,
you stare down the rain,
search out every lightning claw,
relish the quaking earth.
you are unafraid, and
time falls,
forward.

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

Hey - getting ready to teach my kids how to write free verse. ‘Sokay if I print this one out? I think they’ll get it. They’re pretty sharp. There are some others of yours I might like to use, too. May I browse your poetry link?
Happy National Poetry Month!
(P.S. If anyone else has “kid-friendly” poems you would be willing to let me share, please let me know. I posted my school email address.)
Be my guest. I’m glad to think they will actually be used for something useful
rm–I too wanted to ask for your permission to print some of your poetry. We have about 9 new mamas in our parish who are coming to my house w/ sproutlets on the 1st of May. The idea is to celebrate the little ones and mainly, to gently remind the moms that they too need tending to their soul. I thought I’d read give them some of your poems for “edification, instruction and amusement.” If you have any other recommendations of “food for the soul” let me know…r
OH, I love this.
