Busy, fun day—in short, we went to City by the Sea to visit with Songbird while others went shopping; also visited the rocky coast and watched the tide crash in. We’re on our way to see fireworks in a few minutes.

Last night both girls were fit to be tied—neither got much naptime during the day so we had a coordinated meltdown at bedtime, and M got up twice during the night, which she hasn’t done since she was about two weeks old. Gah! We’ve tried to stay on top of sleep today and their moods were much better.

M has eaten banana the last two days. Loves It. This evening she was lunging toward the spoon, open mouthed. Pity us the poopy diaper that is to come.

The time is short and so is the poem, inspired by a quiet moment this morning when C, M and I were the first ones up.

the shortest distance

between my daughters
is a twin-dimpled grin
that crackles back and forth,
a line
I dare not cross.

a random thought on bananas in the summer. i’m told that if you eat bananas, mosquitoes are more attracted to your scent. after i heard that i’ve stopped eating them in the summer and gotten lots fewer bites. might be random, might be something to it.

    i look forward to reading a poem a day—IV and onward. . .

Great poem! Good luck with the bananas. Love that you got to have an RGBP meetup.

there might be something to that banana thing….I ate a lot of bananas when I came to Egypt. But now I’ve gone off them again (I go through banana phases). In the beginning, I had more mosquito bites than I knew what to do with, and every visitor was asked to bring After Bite. Now I have no bites (knock on wood). I just thought maybe it was too hot for the mosquitos…but maybe it’s bananas.

In related news, i love this poem.
