• Very good, tiring weekend. The workshop went well, the concert was great. Got to see Mibi! Sorry we didn’t have more time to visit.Edited to add two cool things:
    1. When I introduced the speaker I shared this story, and it was wonderful to be able to share that with her. As she wrote me later, “Musicians don’t always get to know where the music lands. . .you just send it out there and hope it lands well and with your best intentions. It’s a powerful thing, and such a deep encouragement to an artist to find that the song has landed well in someone’s heart. Thank you for letting me know. . .it means a lot to me.”

    2. She saw the poster in our church advertising the upcoming pilgrimage to Iona, Scotland and said, “I want to go with you!” In my note to her today I said we’d keep her updated on our plans if she was sincerely interested. She said she was! Many things would have to align for that to take place, but it’s still fun to think about.

Lots of smiles here. But man I’m beat.

I was hoping to take Wednesday as a comp day, then I remembered an afternoon meeting that did not make it onto my calendar.

    It is to weep.

  • From the President’s 9/11 speech last week:”On 9/11, our nation saw the face of evil. Yet on that awful day, we also witnessed something distinctly American: ordinary citizens rising to the occasion, and responding with extraordinary acts of courage.”

    Ho. Ly. Crap.
Must we insult the rest of the world at every opportunity???

‘Reminds me of an editorial cartoon that a member of the church sent me last week that featured the “front page” of two newspapers:
from 2001: We Are All Americans
from 2006: We Are So Over You

  • I am quite psyched about Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. We Netflixed it the other week and I actually watched it twice before sending it back. I do [heart] Bradley Whitford, Matthew Perry and Timothy Busfield, although I miss Tim’s beard. However, Amanda Peet needs to lay off the Botox or learn to react. And either I don’t “get” the Christian character, or the actor playing her doesn’t.
  • Went to dinner in Chinatown last night with Mamala and some family who were in town. Awesome meal. The divine one enjoyed eating off my plate, but people, be warned: the problem with feeding a child off of your plate is you have no idea who much she’s eaten. Or in our case, how little. She woke up RAVENOUS at 10 p.m. A bottle and some cereal later, she was relaxed.
  • R was gracious to handle that. I had gone to bed about 7:45.That is all for now.

I would have thought C would have been the ravenous one, as I’m not sure she ate much, but then, maybe she asked for a snach when you got home, hopefully.

I agree with all your dots today!

That “We Are So Over You” thing - sad, sad, sad. But funny!

the workshop was indeed wonderful. didn’t get to go to the concert because of the 60 miles between my house and the event. it was well worth the effort to be there! i’ve even had some additional insights from the “clearness” exercise at the workshop. thanks for organizing it! i’ve been listening to her cd in the car for the last 2 days.

    something distinctly American:

thank you for not buying it

but I will add … Americans are among the most generous people I know. It blows me away.

I suspect God has given us all that spirit of generosity - but you guys (gals) act on it -and I wish I were morelike you in that respect

    bless you.Chinatown sounded fun!

Glad the workshop went well! Yea!

The whole 9-11 speech offended me. It seemed to me the whole point was to scare Americans and offend everyone else.

  6. 6 reverendmother

Maybe it also had the opposite effect, Linda–offending many Americans and scaring the rest of the world ;-/

Lorna, thank you for your gracious words.

I edited my post to add two cool things I’d forgotten:

I don’t really get the whole Sorkin thing. I’ll check it out though.

Wow - this post was chock full of goodies. Thanks.

I am completely undone by the Iona pilgrimage with your singer/songwriter. Cool beyond words.

  9. 9 ppb

So now I have to go to Iona, too, right?

  10. 10 mibi52

we ALL need to go to Iona! Twas a great evening, and PH and I were glad to see you and R and we completely understood that your obligation was not to keep us entertained…there were a whole bunch of other folks there that needed to share your attention. We were glad to see you and Mamala and C and R and to enjoy the fabuloso music. PH is going to see if his professional association (pastoral counselors) could bring the entertainer in for a concert or a workshop or some sort of session.

  11. 11 Linda (FM)

Oh, my. I already wanted to do the Iona thing, but with singer/songwriter along for the ride would be way cool! I hope it works out for her to go with you.

  12. 12 Songbird

No wonder you were in bed early!

Hope you find that comp time soon.

  13. 13 Mamala

Hey, I want to go to Iona too! Do I need to convert?

  14. 14 reverendmother

    Ha, Mamala–two words: No Internet.

  15. 15 Mamala

RM-I can do it, yes I can! Internet is dead to me if I have something really cool, like Iona, to take its place.

Studio 60-I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore…it rocks! Matthew-Sorkin is the man…check it out!

  16. 16 Mamala

    Studio 60-2 thumbs up!

  17. 17 Beth

Studio 60 rocks!!! Another wonderful Aaron Sorkin/Thomas Schlamme project. I’m not crazy about the Steve Weber character, not too sure how he really fits in besides being way to obnoxious. LOVED the speech Judd Hirsch was able to give in the begining. The truth that the two of them can get on TV in a “fictionalized” manner is awesome. This stays on the TIVO list for me!!

    When is the pilgrimage?

  19. 19 Marie

Wow! So much good stuff in one post. Iona sounds amazing!! And I’m going to look for Studion 60 this weekend in between sermon writing and preaching and lesson plans and newsletter production and… Oh well. Yeah, about some sleep… Oh, and I’m dying to know who singer/songwriter is.

AAANNNDD I forgot to say that GWB’s speech offended me too, but Lorna’s words really felt good. Thanks. The “front pages” made me laugh.
