Three years ago today, I was feeling bored and restless at the church and wrote a silly list of Christmas music I’d been hearing on the radio. And reverendmother: the blog was born.
Three years! I certainly wasn’t an early adopter of this genre, but three years is a long time.
I posted a few times a month at first, mainly updates on C for the benefit of the family. Gradually, that number has grown, until this month for example, I made it a point to post daily (my writing group did not meet this month, so the daily posts were as disciplined as I was willing or able to be).
I can’t remember who the first non-family member to comment was. I think it was Songbird, or Dickie Cronkite. Both of whom I’ve met, in addition to countless others who I consider real, in-the-flesh friends.
I feel blessed to have this outlet, this place to connect, to kvetch, to experiment, to wonder, to cuss, to rant, to be myself–or more specifically, to figure out exactly who that self is. Thank you all for your friendship, and for listening.
Before starting this blog, I hadn’t written a poem in 20 years or more–and could count on one hand the number of times as an adult that I’d written something without needing to for school or work. Thanks to this medium for renewing an old, old interest of mine.
In comparison to other religious bloggers, and even other revgals, my readership is small. I told a friend the number and he said, “Well, that’s a good-sized small congregation.” I like that.
R is finishing my Christmas present–a new blog designed using WordPress at www.reverendmother.org. I’m especially excited that my entire blog history will be moved to the new space–comments too. (And I think that technological challenge actually excited R as well–well, more than going to the mall would have.) I’ve thought several times about moving blogs but didn’t like the idea of abandoning this space and everything here–seemed akin to moving to a new house but leaving every shred of stuff behind.
Those of you who subscribe by e-mail, you’ll still be able to do that. Bloglines readers will be able to read that way (as I understand).
I’ll let you know when it happens.
Happy birthday to RM!

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

Happy birthday RM! I’m glad you found this medium and even happier that I found you! Thanks for your honesty and your inspiration. I look forward to seeing your Christmas present!
Happy blog b-day!! You are someone that I feel as though I know IRL.
What a wonderful gift you are getting!
Happy Birthday RM … blessings and love
Happy Birthday!
I am a fairly recent blogger, and a friend of Keith Snyder’s, his blog links to yours, and here I am.
I worship with a large, big city, Episcopalian parish in the American west. I’ve enjoyed seeing what ministry is like from the other side of the pulpit.
My daughter and my stepsons are long since all grown up - I remember what it was like to have a young one in the household. I’ve read your blog about your daughters with a smile, sometimes with nostalgia, sometimes with relief I’m not doing that anymore!
A blessed Christmas to you and your family!

Happy Birthday ReverendMother! Glad to know you will be getting a new face to the blog. I always enjoy reading your posts.
Blessings upon you as we enter into the Christmas season.

Happy blogiversary! Looking forward to seeing the new space.
Happy blogday.
I may have been one of the early non-family commenters, but I think it was an underserved shot at some religious thing or other. Then I couldn’t remember where I’d made the comment, so I never got back to follow up. By the time I ended up back here again, I kind of winced thinking about it, so I figured … eh.
I’m still not going to go find it, but this seems like a good opportunity to say: Sorry.
How are you moving all the comments? That’s one of the few things keeping me here.
Many happy returns of the blogday! Very glad you’re there
HAVE A CRAZY BIRTHDAY PARTY. TOO BAD I NOT INVITED. DONT GET TO WASTED
I love thinking of your blog readership as another congregation all your own. Happy Anny!
Happy Blogiversary!
Congratulations. I can’t remember how I got here the first time, but I’m certainly glad it happened.
Happy Birthday RM. Reading your post is one of the ways I end my day; often laughing, often thankful to hear what’s happening with the family, sometimes just reading words which are insightful, often beautiful, always expressive!
Glad to be a member of the congregation!
Thanks everybody.
The best thing about this “congregation”–no committee meetings. Also I get to cuss. Oh, and some of the coolest people around.
Keith, I know exactly which post it was. I’m glad you came back around. And no worries.
Happy blog birthday! I stop by nearly every day, even though I don’t always comment. I do so enjoy your poetry AND your sense of humor! Looking forward to seeing your new site.
how cool about the new blog! i’ll be sure to update my bloglines.
Keith: I used a web spidering tool (httrack) and a couple of perl scripts I wrote to process the resulting HTML and turn it into Moveable Type export format. Let RM know if you get serious at some point about moving… I could send you the export file from your blog pretty easily.
you and R are so cool and tech-savvy. And you started blogging at a time when it was cool, not when it was dorky (which is when I started)….so…happy blogday!
Your readership is nowhere near small–you should see mine. You have a meeting-free congregation! I have a large extended family. With no cussing (cuz it’s not anon..).
much love from the midwest..
peace!
What a cool Christmas gift! Happy birthday!
Wow, I remember this blog at around six months - back before she could talk (type words?). At three, she’s already swearing. They grow up so fast these days, don’t they? I, for one, blame the Internets.
Congrats on the Milestone, and a happy holiday!
Happy bloggy birthday rm!!
I am happy you blog! Thanks for this link to your life and thoughts!
A happy birthday to you!!
I am of course, very behind in commenting of late, on all my blogger friend’s sites. I just wanted to wish you a happy (belated) blogger birthday. I have only been blogging since June of this year. Sooo, I suppose that means I’ll be a year old next June. I enjoy your posts; hope I will be able to read them when your move is made.
