but a whimper, as two girls and one of their parents have what appears to be food poisoning. I will not reveal which parent, to protect the identity of the ill. The girls are much better, but the parent may have been overheard praying for a quick and merciful demise.
Girls and healthy parent will fly home tomorrow, the other will fly home Tuesday. Which is also RM’s 35th birthday. (half-heartedly blowing noisemaker)
Isn’t this damn year over YET???

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

obligatory counting of blessings
-that my children will not need a rehydration kit provided by Church World Service to save their lives after this ugly bout of illness–we can go to the neighborhood pharmacy for pedialyte popsicles
-that this did not hit in the middle of a 3 1/2 hour layover in Windy City Airport
-that only one parent has it
-understanding and helpful in-laws
-that we were planning to come back a day early anyway, so it doesn’t throw things too far off
-that in spite of the expense of basically having to forfeit our existing plane tickets, that we have enough financial stability just to get home when we need/want to
-Mamala will be waiting for us at home.
Oh, stop. Food poisoning sucks. Feel better soon.
Hope everyone has a quick recovery!
Oh food poisoning totally sucks! I don’t know which is worse—to be the “healthy” (but for how long?) parent flying home with 2 recently sick kids, or the sick parent.
Seems like it sucks all ’round.
I hope your birthday is the beginning of a VERY healthy new year!
2006 is over here at last
Do you need a doctor’s note to get a medical refund on the tickets you had to forfeit?
As a veteran of food poisoning, both girls and the parent have my deepest sympathetic understanding. It is absolutely no fun at all.
I hope everyone is much much better as the new year begins.
on meet the press today one of the round-tablers said he/she thought president bush might stay up ’til midnight tonight just to make sure 2007 actually arrives because 2006 has been such a terrible year for him.
from my reading of your year you’ve had more than your share of garden variety health issues, but i’ve not heard of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, ALS, MS, lost jobs, divorce, personal experience w/ tsunamis or hurricanes. all in all. not a bad year.
many years ago when my sister had food poisoning at her future in-laws house (on the very first visit she ever made to their house) she came up w/ an excellent string of expletives to use in such situations. i’ve shared it w/ many people through the years and it’s helped them to laugh a bit in the midst of distress.
maybe i’ll give you the string for your 35th birthday gift.
Hope all get well soon and there is time to celebrate that birthday before the work/school routine begins.
Oh man! That is wrong. I’m sitting at home reading your blog on new year’s eve instead of sitting in my hotel room, about to go out to listen to a jazz combo while waiting for midnight. Sigh…
I’m gonna be real glad to shut the door on 2006, too.
Yeah, it’s not that 2006 was full of tragedy for me, in fact lots of lovely things happened; but I’m just So Over It.
Update: the food poisoning is, in fact, most likely a very disgusting virus that has been going around Corny State for most of the fall. Down side: that means the non-afflicted person could still potentially get it. Pray that s/he does not; s/he has been washing hands with the fervor of a surgeon.
Blessings and healing thoughts. But I’m not coming over there, sorry!
hope all is smooth soon and happy early Bday!
Thinking of you…there has been a similar virus doing the rounds on this side of the Pond, which knocked out many a Christmas. I’ve been praying for its halt generally (so far our household has escaped)so will gladly include you. I am sorry your family was afflicted.
But…its 2007 now, so things must be on the up
Love and blessings for the year ahead xx
I had food poisoning on a plane once. My “mamala” picked me up at airport too and helpfully shared that I appeared to be dead. It is truly a form of hell - and I’m so sorry.
Here’s to new life in the new year. Happy 2007.
Here is to health in 2007!
Blech! I hope the girls and sick parent are feeling much better soon.
Happy 2007.
