This week Aunt S shared a project she’s working on for some nieces and nephews called “C is for Cousin.” I am working on a poem but I’m not sure it’s for public consumption—so here are some ABC’s from Maine:

I took a road trip with M several weeks ago, and a couple of images have stayed with me since then for some reason. I may or may not post anything tomorrow, so this’ll do.

a bird surged from the wood by the road,
yawing back and forth with the weight
of an impossible branch—
thick, with twigs […]

Pity. The haiku is such an elegant art form, to be destroyed thusly.
Food-inspired verse:

sand clings to baby,
slathered in sunscreen: sugar
on hot buttered roll.

while you nap, others
buy lobster that will clamor
and die for dinner.

Busy, fun day—in short, we went to City by the Sea to visit with Songbird while others went shopping; also visited the rocky coast and watched the tide crash in. We’re on our way to see fireworks in a few minutes.
Last night both girls were fit to be tied—neither got much naptime during the day […]

Another unedited piece. Little she-who-is took her first boat ride yesterday–a little fishing boat with small motor. I wondered what it was like from her point of view.
first, i put on a vest
that framed my face in orange.
