Published by reverendmother 1 year, 6 months agoI’m going to have a short autobiographical piece published in the WaPo! With picture! Wow, too bad I so maligned the “Beauty Tips for Ministers” blog—oh, the irony.

Wahoo for WaPo! Congrats!
I love that part of the WaPo! That is AWESOME!
Congrats! Although the English professor in me confesses that I have always found the “autobiography as haiku” title of the column annoying, since the pieces are not in fact haikus at all. But I’m overly uptight about genre identification, perhaps. But that is neither here nor there — hurrah for you!
(Speaking of genre — During The Unpleasant Interlude to which you refer, I thought that much of the problem was genre identification, of folks not knowing how to read the Beauty Tips blog for what it is or of disagreeing that it ought to be a genre in the first place. And, of course, emotions got piled upon emotions, and by the end no one was behaving at all well. So I’m glad she took that post down, so that everyone can put that moment behind them and carry on as the caring, faithful people that I all involved clearly are.)
I’m sure you’ll look lovely in your photo! And that your — err — “haiku” will be lovely as well. Congrats!
Yeah, I don’t like the haiku moniker either.
And yes, you’re right—ad hominem snark is not a genre I’ve developed much taste for.
But seriously. Despite having read her often, and enjoying some of the cheeky humor, that post made me mad, and still distresses me, because of its utter gracelessness. In the Presbyterian Church, at any rate, we ministers make a vow to be “a friend to our colleagues in ministry,” and I take that seriously, with God’s help. She missed that mark big-time with that post. But as I said at Listing’s, she seems to have softened quite a bit, and I’m predicting she’ll get a book deal out of this 15 minutes of fame, so more power to her. If I lurk in the shadows and wish her ill, I’m guilty of the same sin. So I wish her well.
Congrats!
How very cool! (And guess who never realized you could comment on the asides? hee hee!)
