Some recent sighing over George Clooney at Will Smama’s reminded me that, while my love for The Clooney is still abiding and fierce, I have neglected to report a dream from two nights ago in which Ewan McGregor and I got married. There was no angst over this, no inconvenient spouses or children, just me and the hot Scotsman, riding off into the sunset. Oh how I. love. this. man. But why does he have to make such dreary movies too?

I’ve had Ewan on the brain because R and I have been watching Long Way Round via Netflix. A few years ago Ewan and a buddy decided to ride motorbikes from the UK to New York City, going east—through Europe, through Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and Siberia, then hopping a plane to Alaska and down through Canada. 17,000 miles or so? I rented it because I’m interested in motorcycle trips for the purposes of the story about Dad but also because, well, Ewan. It’s a fun show. He’s quite genuine and likable. Very vulnerable and open. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, except the parts when he talks about how much he loves his wife. Bitch.

It was a hell of a trip. One bizarre night he found himself hosted in a man’s home who came downstairs for dinner with a guitar in one hand and an AK47 in the other. The guy proceeds to serenade the impromptu dinner party, which is quite pleasant, but there’s this matter of the gun, and other guns lying around everywhere, and Ewan and his buddy Charley don’t speak the language and have no clue what’s going on. So Ewan does the only thing one can do in such a situation; he picks up the guitar and sings U2’s “Running to Stand Still.” Melt

He also snores like a buzzsaw, but I’d be happy to roll him over anytime.
The next installment will be Long Way Down, in which he and Charley go from Scotland to Cape Town. I’ll be Netflixing that too.

In other Scotland news, we picked up some very fun new folks for the Iona pilgrimage, and how cool is it that I will be over there when the seventh Harry Potter book comes out?

Excellent dream. You’ll be there when Potter 7 comes out? Wonderful.

I actually think I’ll be in Edinburgh for The Event.

I am so outrageously jealous of you going to Iona at all! And now you have to add to my jealousy! Oh well, and to top it off you have a better chance with your movie boyf than I do with mine.

Yes. Yummy. Your dreams are ever so much nicer than mine, which have to do with being buried under a pile of notes for overdue papers for various classes.

Like PPB I am so jealous, I can hardly bring myself to write. Ha!

Have a wonderful trip this summer. Maybe you’ll run into Ewan while you’re there!

Speaking of Harry Potter, the most recent Newsweek mag is saying that summer camp directors are having to arrange “nights out” for their campers to go buy the last installment of the book series in the nearest bookstores…times have changed. Seems when I went to camp, the only thing we got to do was go on snipe hunts and swat mosquitoes!

I saw a chunk of the “Long Way Round” episodes and loved it. I’ll have to check out the rest of them sometime!

Kathryn—what would be involved? Plane, train? I’m definitely up for it!

OK - so he’s not my movie boyfriend, but did anyone else see the NYT piece about Daniel “Harry Potter” Radcliffe buffing up for the nude role in Equus? It’s playing in London, and the chicks were giving him good reviews, mostly about his buffing up. He almost full frontal on the posters. Somehow, buff Harry just doesn’t work for me, but I’ll wait until #7 comes out to see if it might be more in character. (don’t worry I’m not contemplating any movie boyfriend cradle robbing…) He’ll never be a Ewan or a George.

Just checked out the article—I really admire him for branching out and trying something so challenging artistically. Yeah. That’s what I admire…
