- So I didn’t share any quotable quotes from M the other day. Like many second-born children, she seems to be spending her mental energy on stuff other than talking. Such as climbing up and down the stairs, which she can do with great ease. This is a relief. We can’t exactly leave her unattended while she climbs, but she seems unlikely to fall and hurt herself anymore.
- Though she has few words, she communicates well. Pointing and grunting are popular and effective. The “pick me up” touchdown gesture is irresistible. And when she doesn’t get her way, she cries as if her heart will break. She even throws herself on the ground, sort of. That is, she sits down, then juts her elbows behind her and gently lies down the rest of the way. It’s like a slo-mo thing. I want to say to her, “Come on! If you really wanted that cell phone [cookie, hairbrush, choking hazard] you’d risk concussion for it.”
- Though she doesn’t talk much, she does say “Amen” at the end of a prayer.
- All in all, at 15 months she is delightful and easy. Though I hear her stirring irritably on the monitor. Did you hear me, child? You are delightful and easy, dammit!
- We had one service today, with Sunday School beforehand. Man, that was like being on vacation. I left the house at 8:15! I actually heard the newspaper hit the driveway while getting ready! I’ve often said that my #1 criterion for my next call, whenever or wherever that might be, is ONE worship service. I’m only half kidding. I actually came home energized enough to spend the afternoon gardening with C.
- Those of you who know me know, I have to be pretty darn energized to choose that activity. But it was actually fun. I even went to Home Depot! Voluntarily! We did some planting in containers for our back patio, armed with an old pristine copy of Gardening for Dummies. I’m sure I bought it in some “Real Adults Have Gardens” stupor one time. C selected sunflowers and some other flowers, and we decided to try carrots. Why not?
- Meanwhile, R did some yard and tree maintenance and MaDear wrangled the kidlets when they got bored by the planting project. I have to say that if you want to have fun with littles while actually getting things done, 3 adults to 2 children seems to be the golden ratio.
- Then this evening R and I went out for Thai food, and though we both got food with the two chili pepper designation, R’s was hot enough to feel his fight-or-flight reflex kick in. Of course, it was too delicious for him to, y’know, stop eating, so instead it was like Bart Simpson grabbing the cupcake that Lisa rigged with electric current for her science project: “is my brother dumber than a hamster?”
Ow.

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

Today was such fun…wonderful music at the church service, a great lunch of lentils left on the stove overnight (which night) at the RM household which no one would touch except iron-gut Mamala and they were fantastic!, watching my daughter #1 with her daughter #1 honor the “sherry” gene by doing some spring planting, having fun bathtime with the girls, and finally tucking them both in and the cuddles that go along with that…I didn’t get a stitch of work done today that needed to be done and yet, I don’t really care. That’s a huge step for me! Life is good.
hahahahah!!! I will be laughing about the Simpson quote for a long time. thanks.
So glad you had an excellent Sunday. I too felt as if I had a day off because ALL I had were two worship services! No SS, no YG, no Confirmation….it was a beautiful day and I slept the afternoon away like a normal person.
As we are about to switch to three worship services on April 22, I too am thinking that I will need to be much more firm in my “no services before 9am” rule next time around. I thought I was pretty clear with this one, but now the plan is changing. The big question in the air is “what time???”–I am waiting more anxiously than anyone else to find out the answer….
Now there’s the image every husband wants in his wife’s head…
Tee hee… actually, R and I are equally dense when it comes to hot food.
When I was in Mexico several years ago, our group was in a restaurant eating some corn chips when I dipped one liberallly in the tomatillo salsa on the table.
Yeah. It was habanero.
Ouch!
This was a hoot!
