So I received a $100 check for the little piece I wrote for World Famous Newspaper. It’s not the first time I’ve received a check for something I wrote, but it’s the first time the check has come from an entity that the average person has probably heard of. (i.e. Homiletics Magazine is not exactly a household name.)

So. Cash it or frame it? Post your thoughts here.

Photocopy and frame. Then cash it.

    I agree with Keith!!

Hope your mouth’s feeling good by now.

  3. 3 ppb

Exactly what I was to say. Go to Kinkos where you can get a color copy done.

Scan it into the PC, work out the programming required to slightly alter the numbers on the check, print many copies, cash them and frame the original as proof that you have done nothing untoward.

Or just do what Keith said.

    Send it to me.

  6. 6 Cathy

Take a picture with you holding it - then run to the bank and cash it.

oh, I was so going to suggest copy and frame…then XT’s idea came up and I really think that’s better. Do that. :-)

  8. 8 Kathryn

Either way, your fan base is proud of you! But yes, XT has it sussed ;-)

Congrats! That is great. Definitely spend the money but find a way to copy and frame…just like Mr. Crabs first dollar on SpongeBob!

  12. 12 Mamala

I was gonna say color copy it and then spend that sucker…but clearly I am late to the party!

  15. 15 Preacher Mom

Ok, curiosity is killing me. If you get a chance, email me at preacher_mom3@yahoo.com to tell me about the article and this World Famous Newspaper!

Frame the newspaper piece and a copy of the check with nice a nice mat. Then cash it and do something Just. For. You.

upon further thought, i think you should take a lo-res b&w copy of it, spill some coffee on the copy, take a photo of it with your cell phone, then get a screen capture of you showing us the picture via a webcam, but then spend the check

If you can afford NOT to cash it - keep it - as a family trophy.
photos and copies aren’t authentic documentation you know !

Scan it in hi-res so you make HUGE color copies of it for papering the walls of your half-bath. (Do you have a half-bath?)

You must of course cash it, and then spend it on something frivolous and fun. Just remember to hold back about $30 to pay the taxes. :-)

On even closer consideration, I henceforth-thus concur with NoyShyChiRev and his analysis. The only stipulation is that you should make sure that the HUGE color copies of it end up costing more than $100.

    Hee hee!

I think I will cash it after making a copy for framing with the original piece. I wonder if it’s possible to get a reprint of the piece on regular paper as opposed to newsprint, which yellows over time.

  22. 22 sherry

Sometimes it is possible to get the metal plate used to print the article. Those are fun to have and frame.

I’m way behind the curve on this one — copy and frame was also my answer…..
