As some of you may have seen in this Wednesday’s RevGalBlogPals Festival, Pottermania has hit the RevGals—though not all of them. Yes, I am all over Harry like a Seeker on the Snitch, but I know there are others who will be ecstatic to see the July madness end.

So today’s F5 is a Choose Your Own Adventure: do the magical version or the Muggle one, or both:

Option 1:
Accio Friday Five!

1. Which Harry Potter book is your favorite and why?
Prisoner of Azkaban, hands down. It is the most cohesive story, and I adore the themes of the book—fighting the dementors, the time-travel stuff in which Harry has the confidence to conjure a Patronus because he sees himself doing it, the spiritual presence of his dad, the mentorship of Lupin…

2. Which character do you most resemble? Which character would you most like to get to know?
I most resemble Hermione with a side of Ginny. I think Tonks would be really fun to get to know.

3. How careful are you about spoilers?
a) bring ‘em on–even if I know the destination, the journey’s still good
b) eh, I’d rather not know what happens, but I’m not going to commit Avada Kedavra if someone makes a slip
c) I will sequester myself in a geodesic dome to avoid finding anything out
See, I am pretty much a). The idea of trying to read book 7 a full week/10 days after it comes out and remain spoiler-free will stress me out. I’d just as soon hear the basic ending of the story than worry about someone lurking around every corner ready to blow it for me unintentionally. But R is borderline c), and it will be hard for me to know what happens but not him.

4. Make one prediction/share one hope about book 7.
I made several predictions here.

5. Rowling has said she’s not planning any prequels or sequels, but are there characters or storylines (past or future) that you would like to see pursued?

Unless she reveals more about them in book 7, I’d be interested in a story about Lily and James, or a young Dumbledore. How did he become the most powerful wizard in the world?

Option 2:
Please Mommy, Anything But Those Blankety-Blank Books!

And we do mean anything:

1. Former U.S. First Lady “Lady Bird” Johnson died this week. In honor of her love of the land and the environment, share your favorite flower or wildflower.

Bluebonnets, hands down—the national flower of Texas. They’re magical.

2. A man flew almost 200 miles in a lawn chair, held aloft by helium balloons. Share something zany you’d like to try someday.
This is not as zany as the lawn chair thing, but I would like to swim with the dolphins and climb Long’s Peak in Colorado.

3. Do you have an iPhone? If not, would you want one?
Mamala has an iPhone, being the mother of all early adopters. I think they’re quite sexy but I would not want one. I am trying to curtail my internet use; I don’t want to be online 24/7.

4. Speaking of which, Blendtec Blenders put an iPhone in one of their super-duper blenders as part of their “Will It Blend?” series. What would YOU like to see ground up, whizzed up or otherwise pulverized in a blender?
Malibu Barbie.

Oh wait, even better: my nursing bras. After #3 is weaned I don’t ever want to see those damn things again.

5. According to News of the Weird, a jury in Weld County, Colo., declined to hold Kathleen Ensz accountable for leaving a flier containing her dog’s droppings on the doorstep of U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, apparently agreeing with Ensz that she was merely exercising free speech. What do you think? Is doggy doo-doo protected by the First Amendment?

Only if the dog was the one making the statement.

I guess my question is this: If Bonus Baby is a Bonus, why do you still have the nursing bras?

    MAGICAL VERSION

    1. “Prizoner of Azkaban” also. I love the character surprises and the faithfulness of friends.

    2. I relate most to Dumbledore…I would only hope to resemble him.
I love how he trusts people that no one else will trust and sees the good in them.

    3. c ) I will sequester myself in a geodesic dome to avoid finding anything
    out!
I have carefully planned my cross country trip that I am currently on so that I will be holed up with relatives who are also Potter maniacs. We will go to the Border’s late night party and get our reserved books at midnight. I am planning to read until I finish the book!

    4. Snape is good. I’ve felt it all along. Sirius is alive.

    5. I want to know more about Dumbledore’s letters to Petunia. Maybe this will be answered in Book 7. A prequel about Lilly and James would be great. I agree.

Great post RM! Signing off from Dallas!

Sherry, much as I loathe them, a couple are sports-bra style and make acceptable exercise bras.

Me too Kelley, I have always felt that there was more to Sirius’s “death” than met the eye. Falling through the veil doesn’t seem like real death to me. I don’t know how she might make that work though—the other characters are sure acting/talking like Sirius is dead; at least, they’re not correcting Harry when he assumes as much. Maybe this is something beyond even their understanding, because I can’t imagine them not being straight with him, and “we didn’t tell you for your own good” is getting rather old in these books!

Even if Snape is evil-bad, I don’t care. I’d leave Yoda hanging in the swamp and park my tie-fighter on the death star with him any day of the week.

    Oh! wait…. I think I’m confused.

What keeps coming around and around with Rowling’s writings is that few things are what they seem to be! I’ve leaving the “door” open for any possibility even if it might be one heck of a writing feat to bring Sirius back from the dead!

And I can’t even “go there” with the possibility that Harry might die. Ugh!
I will be reading book 7 with “fear and trembling”.

  6. 6 Laura (ellbee)

I’m with you on the Bluebonnets. We made a special trip over this March, only to find we were two early for the full effect of whole fields of them.

  7. 7 Teri

highly excellent job, RM. :-) Much love from the midwest for you and for Harry. :-)

  8. 8 Quotidian Grace

You know I love the bluebonnets! God bless Lady Bird and her work to conserve all the beautiful wildflowers of Texas.

  9. 9 Presbyterian Gal

Hey RM, You and I love the same book. I like your list too!! And you said more than two are gonna bite it in #7. No, oh no. *head under pillow sobbing*

l’ll join you swimming with dolphins! Always wanted to do that.

    Great play.

  10. 10 Leah

Hey, thanks for a great double-play! I especially love bluebonnets for 2/1.

  11. 11 ruby

Thanks for a great play! This was double the fun.

  12. 12 revabi

Hey thanks for having both options available to play. Good play on your own questions. Godd stuff here. Hope you do get to blend those nursing bras. Your mom is cool to have an I phone.

» Best packaging. Did your headphones come in a sweet case? See a bottle of tea in another country that stood off the shelves? Well, that’s kind of a silly question, but I’ve come this far with the blog challenge… I did get this Gelaskin for my laptop. If you see me in the coffee place, say hi.  # 1
