Just couldn’t resist poking in for one more check-in/update. My main objective was to read the daily e-updates on the girls, which the grandmothers are e-mailing to each other and to us (for reading when we get back, but who can wait?). We really miss them. A lot.
Apparently C is sitting in R’s chair at dinner and asked to look at my clothes last night. M is walking around wearing my shoes (which she does anyway) and is a bit clingier. But Free to Be is also providing backup and they are keeping with the regular routine with daycare, where they have good friends and a wonderful caregiver. Outside of that, Grandmother Camp seems to be keeping them plenty occupied.
It is strange to be coming to closure with this Iona experience, yet we aren’t coming home for several more days. I’m looking forward to Edinburgh, but it will be strange to be back to urban civilization—and not our own.
When I got off the internet at the hotel yesterday I discovered it was pouring down rain. So I thought, ”Ah well, cream tea then.” It was delicious.
Two of the people’s bags were located. They are waiting at a hotel in Glasgow. The third person’s bags have still not been found. She is off to Frankfurt after this so as you can imagine she is concerned.
There are rocks on the far side of the island, just a few miles from here, that are 2.4 billion years old. And when I push PUBLISH, those words will be accessible instantly to people all over the world. Does anyone else think that strange?
Miscellaneous responses to comments:
Kelley, if you could save a copy of that article for my files I’d appreciate it.
Keith, good luck with the legal stuff. Big bleh.
Kathryn, my goodness! I’m sorry you’re in the midst of that. The papers here are so interesting and much more blunt than in the states: ”This is the result of global warming. We’d better get prepared and used to it.” Indeed.

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

Great to hear things are wonderful RM. Okay here too, but I’d love a cream tea about now.
How fun to read Harry Potter in Edinburgh.
Sounds like fun! (What is cream tea?)
Cream tea! Oh, oh, oh!
And ancient rocks…the absolute best.
If the rocks could speak…!
Enjoy, enjoy.
Love reading this.
Mmmmmm…cream tea….
that is so not on my plan for today!!
the bit about the ancient rocks and the internet — yeah, RM, it IS strange…
The edge of the world is just how it feels.
Did they tell you those rocks are the 3rd oldest anywhere in the world?
Hmm….sounds like you got our rain.
Have you heard the corncrakes every night?
OMG, the cream tea at the Columba is amazing. And I’m so jealous that you’re in my happy place right now. The rocks at St. Columba’s Bay are incredible. As is the fact that there is now internet on that island. When I lived there, the Abbey was the only place with email and we only used it for running the place–there was nowhere else to go really, except maybe the post office but that was a little sketchy (though Crawford, the man who worked there, was always a crotchety old joy).
I miss it. I must hear more when we see each other in a couple of weeks…
