Cathy wants proof beyond any doubt. What happens when we hang the TP the other way? she wants to know.

Interesting that she should mention this, since yesterday R said, “You realize that if you reverse it, the design will be right side up on the hanging-down part.”

True enough. (Though upside down on the roll itself.)

And then we turned over the sheets to reveal… NO design whatsoever!

It is only embossed on one side.

The hanging-down-the-front side.

There you go.

Clearly I missed my true calling. As what, I don’t know. Person Who Cares About Meaningless Stuff?

I am here to confirm that you are absolutely correct about the direction of the toilet paper roll–embossed or not!

Well, if the cat in the house, should you have one, decides to play “unroll the TP” just for giggles, you’ve got a mess on your hands.

It’s not the most earth shattering disgreement to plague mankind, but those of us who have cats who think playing with shreds of paper is the cat’s meow (sorry!) hang TP so that it can’t be unrolled from the front.

Even though the design looks nicer the other way.

We are remodeling the bathrooms. Maybe I should consider this debate when purchasing toilet roll holders.

Does this decision also include how to hang paper towels in the kitchen?

Hmmm… interestingly, I might favor hanging paper towels so that they hang flush with the wall. Unlike a toilet paper holder, which is usually just on a blank wall, a paper towel holder hangs over a counter, and you don’t want the end hanging down and getting in the way.

And, you don’t often find yourself fumbling in the middle of the night for a paper towel like you do a piece of toilet paper.

On the other hand, sometimes you need a paper towel, QUICK (cough*toddlers*cough), and who wants to hunt for the end piece?

    Ah, a gray area, this.

We solve the issue by having a paper towel holder that sits vertically on the counter.

    I have cats.
My toilet paper hangs properly, over the top.
I too have a vertical paper towel holder.
My cats play with the paper towels, but not with the toilet paper.

    Just saying.

aside: my cats are certifiably insane, and I know this. So their evidence is, well, not always credible. nonetheless…

You are such a prophet. The force is strong with this one. I’m way impressed.

Who’d thunk we would be giving deep theological thought to tp?

did anyone hear the “green” breaking news recently that sheryl crow recommends only using one square of tp? if it’s true she must have an itty bitty behind.
