i’m typing one handed with a snotty m on my lap. reminds me of nursing and typing one-handed.
the staff gave me a lovely surprise shower this morning. bb has clothes!
gmommy to the rescue; she is visiting this weekend while mamala continues her marathon travels.
tonight the personnel ministry team signs off (fingers crossed) on my proposal to go part-time. next stop: session. it should be a slam-dunk, but there is a lot of angst in the church right now for reasons not fully understood by me.
the part-time proposal will go through 2008, during which time a long-range planning team will be looking at staff issues generally, including the timing of senior pastor’s retirement and the need for a different mix of pastoral responsibilities and skills. one person on personnel feels that she and i have skill sets that are too similar.
if that’s true, isn’t it a good thing that we are bringing in other pastors with diverse skills to fill in the rest of my job responsibilities?
and would he have even brought this up if i hadn’t asked to go half-time?
at any rate, i don’t know what the outcome of that long-term planning will be, but i guess they could determine that they need someone with different skills than i have. ????
and finally, if toddler mucous were a fuel source we could eradicate global warming.

» I’m looking for some new online reading materials–blogs, zines, whatever. Creative yet accessible, inspiring but not schmaltzy, smart but not impenetrable. Recommendations welcome.
» The latest on SBJ: at one year, he weighs 30.5 pounds (99%), is 32 inches tall (97%) and is 100% cute.
» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.

if snot were a fuel source, I would never have to worry about purchasing fuel again, thanks to my preschool class.
Yay for a surprise shower. I mean BB would survive wearing all that pink and purple, and would have lots of good examples on gender stereotyping to bring to his college papers, but new clothes! are loved by all. As are you, deario.
I wouldn’t take teh skill set thing personally. First of all, as you’ve described her, it doesn’t sound like the two of you are similar at all, except that both of you like to preach, and then there’s that pesky gender thing, too.
I hope little M will be feeling better very soon. (And thank God for the G-mommies and Mamalas of the world! They save our sanity!) And now that you’ve mentioned it - where does all that green stuff come from anyway??!!
Prayers for the part-time transition challenges! Sometimes congregations create way more drama than is needed. Once they (and you) see how this works, everyone will feel better.
I think that for churches, [cue dramatic echo] Full!! Time!! Ministry!!
is more of a sacred cow than I had realized.
Part-time? Job share? Whaaaa?
I’m sure that once the Boomers retire in ever larger numbers and realize they still want to do some meaningful work on a less than full-time basis, part-time arrangements will suddenly and miraculously be lauded as the greatest thing since sliced bread.
So did the BB clothes all have trucks on them? Just curious (and will find out later.)
Sorry about the mucous. We’re all about the mucous at our house too.
You know? Only one had trucks on it. Just frogs. Lots of frogs, and a stray dinosaur.
Oh, and the little golf-themed outfit that really was pretty cute. But nobody in our immediate, or even extended, family plays golf. Which makes it even better, in my opinion.
Been pondering that fuel source question for years. I think it should at least be marketable as some sort of industrial, short-term lubricant or something. Good luck with the part-time position. And even moooore good luck when it gets approved and they start testing your boundaries. *big grin*
If M’s is anything like B’s, its adhesive properties would preclude its removal from the tanker trucks.
