We are still cocooning around here.
Though I am on my way to the orthopedist to finally get the foot looked at. Hoping it’s not a drawn-out process. R is bringing J along so that I can meet all his snacking needs.
He is getting into a rhythm. Longer periods of sleep interspersed with some frequent feeds. Two nights ago he slept for more than 4 hours. Last night, more like 3. But he’s definitely on a day/night routine.
Is having a boy different? Aside from the guilt that I just let him spray himself in the face during a diaper change, no.
M seems so big and fleshy. And wow, heavy. She is sleeping better.
The Christmas decorations are up. I think we’ll hide the baby Jesus from the nativity set this year and bring him out on December 24. I always arrange the figures on the mantel a little differently depending on whatever theological predilections I’m having at the time. Some years when I’m feeling very Eastery I put the lamb right next to the manger. Other times I put the shepherds closer in than the magi as a sort of last-shall-be-first statement. This year one of the magi (who I know don’t show up until later anyway, so sue me) is standing way back with the camels. He’s a symbol of all that is reluctant in ourselves. </SUCH a geek>
Time to go. I’ll let you know what happens with the foot!

Oh goodness - I’d hoped that maybe a bit of rest would fix it. Do hope there’s nothing too much amiss.
We’ve always hidden baby Jesus till we get home from the Midnight Mass…Inevitably, some years we forget where, so on Christmas morning the house rings with evangelical shouts “Have you found Jesus??”
Blessings to your new addition and your foot! I’m so glad to hear that I’m not the olny “Grown up” who still “plays” with the nativity. I used to walk the camles and wise me through the house until Epiphany, but with a just turned 3 year old, lets just say the tradition died out. We bought her a nativity of her very own this year (Fisher Price, perhaps too commercial, but cute) and I can’t wait to see how she sets it up.
Hope the foot is nothing serious.
LOL from another geek. I would SO keep Baby Jesus in the drawer until late on the night of the 24th, if he weren’t already glued to the manger.
A friend told me that when she was a child, her parents would put the wise men way across the room, and gradually move them a little closer to the rest of the nativity scene every day, until they finally arrived on Christmas Day. Nice idea, except of course it bothers geeky me a bit that they didn’t have to keep traveling until Epiphany…
unfortunately my nativity set has Mary holding the Baby Jesus - so no holding him back til Christmas…
However - the Wise Men do get their own separate display a ways a way since they’re on their journey =) and not actually there yet =)
Update: toe is definitely fractured, but in a good position to heal fine. I’m wearing the attractive boot which already has prevented me from running into the same couch leg. duh/clumsy
Ouch! What a story to tell Baby J some day! Hope it heals quickly.
broken toes really hurt - bad.
Hope it heals quickly.
Four hours of sleep in a row? I am jealous! My Prince is 2 months and has only slept four hours in a row once. Of course, it could be worse…his 6 month cousin sleeps 1-2 hours at a time still.
Are baby boys different… not sure. But when M and C are happily dancing to Sound of Music don’t be surprised when J is using the dvd carton as a truck to run over their dolls.
Just sayin’.
Hope the foot continues to heal - ouch!
