It was a truly lazy day. I got a flu shot yesterday, which always makes me feel crummy. It’s such a gamble every year. If I don’t get the shot, I may avoid the flu altogether. Whereas if I get the shot, I’m guaranteed a micro-flu. Bleh. Aside from a quick trip to Trader Joes, I did pretty much nothing.

If it weren’t for Amazon.com, nobody would have Christmas gifts this year.

I’m thinking about a delayed-gratification gift for little she-who-is. The Lion King is coming to town and I’m considering getting her tickets. It wouldn’t be until the summer. I think she’ll have plenty of stuff under the tree as it is.

I have NO gifts for sweet baby j. What does a baby his age even need? I pretty much provide what he needs 8-12 times a day as it is.

I struggle with Christmas gifts for the kids every year. I am torn between hating the orgy of gifts on one hand. Yet we don’t buy a lot of toys throughout the year, so this is the one time we sort of ‘replenish’ what they have with new and age-appropriate stuff. So I don’t know.

Tomorrow the editor of Denominational Magazine is scheduled to call. She wants to talk about my doing additional writing for them. Which is fun and exciting, but I have the mental capacity of a marshmallow right now.

Mmm, marshmallow.

I don’t subscribe to denominational mag (shoot me), but I got a free copy, and finally read it today. What fun to have it be one you’ve written in. You’re the best in the ‘zine, and of course they want more of your stuff!!!! (Oh, and i like the picture too, very cute.)

For the past several years we have done the 3 nice presents per child for Christmas: “If it’s good enough for Jesus, it is good enough for you”

This year it is still 3 gifts, but they are extravagant and I have struggled with that. And then I remembered that for the other 364 days of the year I teach and model conservation, having just what we need and not what we want, working hard to get the Special things, giving to charity even when it means passing on things for ourselves, etc etc etc

I hate Christmas, but this year I am enjoying the gift of being allowed to be extravagant with my children.

What did we ever do before online shopping!?

We’re having a relatively minimalist Christmas at our home this year, mostly because I just don’t have the energy to bring all the decorations up from the basement. Maybe tomorrow.

But first, marshmallows. mmmmm…with hot chocolate.

I second your cheer for Amazon, particularly this year. We’re getting close to Coming Home, and I know I will be similarly, and wonderfully, tied down. Blessings to the gift givers and the gift receivers at your house. Our wee one already has way too much stuff, a condition I had wanted to avoid. But I find I am not in control of that (not to mention a few other things). I hear your dilemma and it’s interesting to read the comments on how others face it too.

yeah, no one would be getting much of anything without amazon over here, either, even as we try to show some restraint, too.

i’m betting you’re more articulate than most, even when your brain is a marshmallow.
