As a child, I always loved Ernie, and found Bert to be rather bland and annoying.
As an adult, I find it’s the exact opposite.
I mean, Ernie is a pretty boorish roommate—playing his drums at all hours, interrupting Bert while he’s reading.
Meanwhile… Bert loves pigeons! And he collects bottle caps!
And need I even mention his unapologetic sporting of the unibrow?
How can you not love someone like that?

» I’m looking for some new online reading materials–blogs, zines, whatever. Creative yet accessible, inspiring but not schmaltzy, smart but not impenetrable. Recommendations welcome.
» The latest on SBJ: at one year, he weighs 30.5 pounds (99%), is 32 inches tall (97%) and is 100% cute.
» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.

This is what I love about your blog. Your unabashed willingness to tackle the tough issues.
Rach: LOL!
i think i’m totally with you on this. loved ernie as a kid, didn’t like bert. i have no occasion for watching the show these days, but… i think i’ve switched too!

It’s kind of like my transformation from loving Paul McCartney as a teen to loving John and George as an adult…Ringo, not so much, ever.
Questions to ponder…it’s just now hitting me that Ernie is a horizontal kind of guy and Bert a vertical. I always identified with Bert and figured that my brother was Ernie. An introvert/extravert split. In which case, I really feel sorry for Bert, what with the constantly chattering cheerful companionhip all the time.
I think the whole Meyers-Briggs profile should be transformed into the Ernie/Bert scale.
so i’m a mere hours away from using bert and ernie in a funeral sermon (along with arm and hammer, romeo and juliet), as one of those groups of two that you can’t help but say the other. i think your blog resurfaced them in my subconscious.
