Sermon’s done. It’s short (very full service, with communion) and I’m preaching it first, then reading the scripture. (Horrors!) The sermon basically poses a question that I ask people to reflect on as they hear the passion story.
Well, the Clergy Superbowl is almost upon us, and so, I have offered up this Friday Five (with apologies for the irreverent title):
1. Will this Sunday be Palms only, Passion only, or hyphenated?
Hyphenated. Palms at the beginning, Passion at the sermon (I’m preaching), Communion at the end. I’m sure by the end of the service […]
the divine miss m…
…turned 15 months yesterday. 15 months plus 9 months is 24 months. Two years that this little critter has been in our lives.
…has a new tooth. It’s one of the canines, and the gums are actually triangular in that spot, with a little grain of white poking up. OUUUUUUUCH.
…had been invited to […]
This started as a comment to the previous post and got too long.
So much great stuff to respond to.
It’s inevitable that people bring their own stuff to their reading of this situation. Which is probably why there are so many strong opinions about it. What I bring is an experience from several years ago of […]
From Salon.com.
Bound to tick some people off.

March 27, 2007 | What made the comeback so withering was that it was delivered in such a matter-of-fact tone.
During a “60 Minutes” interview Sunday night, Katie Couric kept hectoring John and Elizabeth Edwards about their stubbornness in the face of cancer. Again and again, […]
My love for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack topples into pure irrationality. Ewan McGregor’s voice is so gee-whiz earnest it HURTS!
And a new dress, several new blouses/shirts, a few tank tops, a new skirt (on order), a belt, pants to replace the ones that got too short, two new pairs of shoes, a necklace… I think that’s about it.
Yes, today is normally a work day. But next week is Holy Week. I’m callin’ this comp […]
So I didn’t share any quotable quotes from M the other day. Like many second-born children, she seems to be spending her mental energy on stuff other than talking. Such as climbing up and down the stairs, which she can do with great ease. This is a relief. We can’t exactly leave her unattended while […]
Staring quietly out the sliding glass door
RM: What are you doing?
C: Watching spring come.
——-
C: Those cut-up onions feel like smoke in my eyes.
——-
C: I don’t want us to have a baby anymore.

There was a fourth one—and it was the best one—but I can’t remember it now. Durn mommy brain.
Songbird says,
I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19, NRSV
As we near the end of the long journey toward Easter, a busy time for pastors and layfolk alike, I ponder the […]
I have a cold, durnit.
Conflicts are being worked through.
The divine miss m was downright giggly all evening.
Little she-who-is sounded out “no” on a sign.
I am doing chapel for the three-year-old classes at preschool tomorrow.
In past years the chapel teacher has done a very generic “Easter means new life, spring and flowers and butterflies” message because […]
Hosted Emergent Clergypal at our home yesterday—he did a presentation last night on “The Church as Art” for our Lent series. Basically put forth some new images for the church—church as God’s art, God’s commissioned artists, and curators of God’s art. It was outstanding. I left buzzing over the overlap between words from the art […]
Ira Glass on storytelling. Interesting for preachers.
her tongue glints silver:
flash-forward—a teen tongue pierced?
no, just a sequin.
I promised C that I would play with her. So this’ll be quick.
I preached this weekend, after a very full week. I feel like the undead, though I’m hopped up on Dr. Pepper. R also happens to be sick, so the girls were with me all.day yesterday (dragged along to a brunch at a church […]
Well friends, this is one of those weeks when I simply must work today, which is normally my day off. I know, I know. We may tut-tut all we want, but the fact is, some weeks are like that. So, this week’s F5 is simple.
Name five things you plan to do today.
1. Write sermon.
2. Get […]
Friends, I am tired, dog tired by the end of each day. My eyes sting with the desire to be closed in a dark room. If we’re not spending time with the girls, we’re working (cough*andblogging*cough). My TV boyfriend is ready to dump me. And exercise? What’s that?
I have a meeting or other programmatic responsibility […]
Little she-who-is just read the word BED.
But I just can’t help it.
Hat tip to Real Live Preacher.
