This is my first full day home solo with all three kids—R is at work and L is closed. Wish me luck! I’m ready! I’m pumped!
R has been enjoying the piano. He got out some of the old books of sheet music and was playing some rudimentary stuff. He likened it to the scene in Two Towers when Theoden is given his sword again. cough*suchageek*cough

M is wearing Pull Ups and has kept them mostly dry the last couple of days. We didn’t decide to kick the potty training into high gear (because, are you kidding? with me going to back to work in two weeks?), it just sorta happened this weekend.
We need to take her to get some actual underwear. Pull Ups are convenient, but ugh, they’re expensive and disposarrific.

M often asks for tastes of what we’re drinking. Lately we’re big fans of Izze sparkling juice. It’s pure fruit juice with sparkling water and no added sugar. A bottle even counts as a fruit serving. Well, last night R was having a beer with dinner, and M wanted a taste. Usually she is content with “No, this is a grown-up drink,” but last night, we knew it wasn’t going to fly. R tipped the bottle to give her a tiny sip.
She cringed, shuddered and said, “Me scared.”
Our toddler finds beer frightening. I can live with that.

C is mighty proud of her solar system mobile. The sun is in the center with the eight planets hanging from four wires that form two crosses. I’m really not sure how the solar system mobile worked when Pluto was a planet; it must have shared a wire with another planet.
Ah, I’m right. Here’s a picture. Ours is the same, minus Pluto. It’s huge.

» I’m looking for some new online reading materials–blogs, zines, whatever. Creative yet accessible, inspiring but not schmaltzy, smart but not impenetrable. Recommendations welcome.
» The latest on SBJ: at one year, he weighs 30.5 pounds (99%), is 32 inches tall (97%) and is 100% cute.
» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.

A solar system without Pluto just doesn’t seem right, does it?
i feel the same way about beer. smart kid.
Go RM! Go RM! Go, go ,go! Here’s to epic naps for all!
And, um, didn’t R woo you by being a piano player?
I had a brief conversation with one of our pediatricians about single-malt scotch, and he told us about the time he dissuaded his little son’s interest by letting him take a sip.
The kid’s eyes went big and he demanded MORE!
So I’m not trying that.
yes, let me introduce you to my brother, who liked beer better than mother’s milk…
Oh, no Pluto makes me sad - but the symmetry makes me happy. Who knew planets could be so confusing?
Hope your day is going well. Color me impressed. All that and potty training too. And I’m with M on the beer.
Love the image of you with your kiddos at home sipping juice, etc. All will be just dandy. You are Reverend Mother!
According to my parents, I loved to drink the foam off my dad’s beer until one time when he had some kind of ale when I was around 2 or 3. It put me off beer to this day.
