The week got away from me!
Busy time getting ready to go back to work on Tuesday. I’m a little nervous about the transition in job description and from full-time to part-time, but I also feel ready to have that part of my life back.
I will work Tuesday and Thursday, with Wednesday as writing/home day. Free to Be will watch SBJ on Tuesdays and one of the moms at the preschool will watch him on Thursdays. Since she works Monday-Wednesday-Friday, she will also be available on those Tuesdays that Free to Be is traveling. I am very happy about this arrangement.
The girls will continue at L’s, though both will drop back in days. I will have M with me on Mondays and C with me on Fridays, and both will go on Tuesday through Thursday. It sounds complicated but in fact it will give me some one-on-one time with each of the girls (well, with SBJ too). We have this intricate schedule of when R will take the girls to school and when I will take them so he can leave the house early and come home early, but I won’t bore you with that.
Senior Pastor came over yesterday and we talked about some re-entry stuff. I am looking forward to getting back into a routine.
One of the things I hoped to do while on leave (cheating a bit) was to make a video inviting members of the church to serve on a new “evangelism dream team.” I thought a video would be more attention-grabbing than a letter. I have had a BLAST working with iMovie. What I’ve come up with is very rudimentary but it’s been fun. And it’s really not that hard to use.
A three-month leave is a real gift. I have had time to rest and get to know SBJ, but it’s also been valuable time to get some aspects of our life organized: closets cleaned out, paperwork organized, items taken to Goodwill. Last night I was ticking off to R some of the things that I was able to get accomplished.
I think everyone should get a maternity leave once in a while, whether they have children or not!
There is much clomping around in our house today—we are having the entire first floor painted and there are eight guys here working on it. I am giddy. SO sick of the white. The hall, living room and stairs will be Calm Air, which is a sort of toasted oatmeal color. The kitchen/family room will be a sage color called Dried Chervil, and the dining room—hoo boy! We are going BLUE. It’s called Smoky Blue and is a strong color, with some grey in it. I might post some before and after pictures.

» I have been remiss in posting SBJ’s latest stats: 23 pounds and 27 inches at six months. Yes, I’ve got the big mama biceps.
» Aaaaaand little she-who-is lost another tooth this week!
» SBJ is four months old, 19 pounds 5 ounces, and 26 inches tall. GIGANTOR!

Can’t wait to see the new look at the RM household!
I’ve never thought of you as stale. Not you, your blog, your life.
Will be thinking about you and holding you in safe, peaceful place as you go back next week. Repeat after me: “No I can’t do that because I’m PT now.”
What is it with interior design colors? I’ve recently been forced to use the Pantone Home Furnishings Forecast 2008 (for graphic design–don’t ask), and it’s all “Rum Raisin” and “Frappe” and “Daiquiri Green.”
It’s brown, it’s beige, it’s yellow.
Sabbatical comes to mind as you describe your leave. I know that hasn’t been what you’ve done, but tending to your home and doing those things that get put off when we’re running full speed can be as fulfilling as anything.
Best of luck as you work back into the flow!
The word “chervil” is not particularly appetizing as an herb, and even less so as a color, but I get the drift. Actually, I want to BE the person who makes up paint names, don’t you? Now there’s a job. Best of luck as you make this transition. Jan has some wise words up there.
Eh Keith, I think you’re really just chartreuse with envy that you aren’t creative in that way.
color! Something apartment dwellers only dream of. I want a red wall so bad! Congrats!
We had a blue wall in our last apartment. All you have to do is expect not to get your deposit back.
No Chartreuse, but I do have a bottle of this stuff that I haven’t been well enough to try.
Maybe this weekend…
Oh, prayers and blessings on your return to work–the adjustments at the church and at home, for all involved.
if i go back presby, will i be this productive?
Perhaps, but would it be worth it?
I’m so glad that you’ve had a good mat leave and that you feel ready to go back to work. But, honestly, I let out a big sad sigh when you said “a three month leave is a real gift.” I think it is as more of a right. And three months doesn’t seem nearly long enough.
Sorry - I really don’t mean to rain on your parade, I just wish you had better mat leave policies.
All the best to you as you transition back into work. It sounds like your household is a well-oiled machine!
Good point Sue! I meant that three months is a gift compared to what many women get in this country, which is to say, paltry.
