still recall the day i voted for your call. it was my first congregational meeting at (suddenly can't recall what you call the church you serve on this blog). in my memory i simply wrote "YES" on a little square of paper---the official ballot for this auspicious occasion.

then, as i recall, i grabbed a piece of celebratory cake on the way out of church---
and i felt that the word on my piece of cake (chocolate) was important enough to note "BE." so a short poem on the day of your call was

yes
be!

and what do you personally celebrate about these 5 years of ministry?

Been there.....
Silly.....

I know one pastor who even sponsored the flowers on the altar that day for herself... Does it feel lonely sometimes? yes.

I'll do it on two conditions:

1. It gets printed.
2. It doesn't get edited.

I'll even waive my fee.

SG, you make a good point, though it's complicated... the newsletter editor is actually somewhat of an innocent bystander in this... she requested something from the correct person some time ago, and the person finally handed in a three-sentence statement. Normally the person writing the article is supposed to interview the staff member and incorporate that feedback into a list of "highlights." But since I am leaving town for 10 days tomorrow it was kinda now or not at all.

But yes, you're right.

congratulations, indeed.

I wonder what would happen if you simply and kindly said to the newsletter editor that you didn't want to write your own celebration note because it felt too weird and if she wanted one perhaps she could find someone else to write it.

*sigh* Yeah...I don't get stuff like that. It makes no sense. Like how they made us write our awards and performance evaluations in the Navy.
