I am really dragging this week. Our day care provider is on vacation this week, and her backup is also gone. So I’ve got kid duty, which is not a big thing—they are my children after all—but it’s also VBS. I am one of the storytellers which means I’ve worked every day. I have gotten out of that habit. It also means the whole brood’s gotta be up and out of the house every morning. And J has been sleeping badly, apparently finding it important to work on four teeth simultaneously.

Being with all three kids all day… getting everyone up and out of the house on time every single morning… being sleep deprived… pick any two, and it’s doable without getting the grumpies.

We left M’s pink bandanna at the church nursery by accident today, and she cried about it for the better part of an hour. I do not exaggerate.

And I’m sad about KB. She was one of my Writing Revs. There were five of us, and her absence is huge. Aside from her great big beautiful spirit, the numbers are all off. I am just now realizing that the number five is big for me—five WRevs, five members of my family, five CGs (group of girlfriends)…

I am looking forward to the memorial service, because I feel like I knew her well in the capacity that I knew her, but I am craving the big picture of her life.

She died while on a vision quest in California. Apparently she got a pedicure before she left, including gold toes (which represented something specific for her). I don’t think I’ll make it to the salon before Sunday, but I can make it to the beauty supply. Gold nail polish it is.
