I’m sure there’s some decent children’s programming, like, from this century, but we’ve stuck to the oldies but goodies: Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and Reading Rainbow. (Why yes, we are raising our kids in the ’70s, why do you ask?)

Maybe we’ve watched too much of the latter…

little she-who-is: Last night I had a dream that G-mommy had a picture at her house that was LeVar Burton and the picture could talk. Then it went away and I cried and cried and cried… but then it came back!
RM: Wow, that’s a neat dream.
little she: It was LeVar Burton!
RM: Yes, I know!
little she: I just love him so much!!!

Oh, does LeVar have a website or something you could post this story to? LOL funny! God, I love that kid!

    teehee!

I remember how excited I was to discover that LeVar Burton was on Star Trek TNG–I think I clapped in delight and said to my parents “How does he read books if he’s blind?” I think my parents might have thought a little like you, except that Reading Rainbow was new then. :-)

Very cool story. LaVar Burton’s been great in everything he’s been in. He was really good in “Roots” and” Star Trek: TNG.”

I’m with little-she. Other people can have George Clooney; LeVar Burton is my tv boyfriend.

over the week-end i was w/ some young friends (early 30s) and “i love you just the way you are” (mr. rogers) came up in our conversation as a fond remembrance of times past and a profound hope for a present reality.

what’s poured in early makes a profound impression, doesn’t it?

yay for old children’s tv!!! Nothing can compare to the wonderfulness of Mr. Rogers (my personal all time favorite…seriously…at 26 I still tear up if I talk about Mr Rogers too much - he’s high on my list of people I want to meet in Heaven… he passed away when I was in college, and my mother actually called me to make sure I heard it from her, and not someone else on campus, since she knew I would be upset…I have a letter from him framed on my home office wall (He told me I was special! Me, not just everyone watching the tv, but me personally!!!…ok I’m going a little too far here)

ok now that I’ve gotten that out of my system (obviously I think my attachment to Mr. Rogers rivals that of your daughter’s attachment to LeVar) but I was a big Reading Rainbow and Square One fan (please oh please they need to bring back Square One for this generation! who doesn’t need a Mathnet fix?) I also was reminded the other day of one of my childhood favorites - Today’s Special (though for all my love of it - it can’t compare to the other three and doesn’t need to be returned to the air the way Square One does…)
