Last night I dreamed that I decided to put little she-who-is up for adoption. I felt so blessed with three kids that I wanted to share that joy with someone who did not have children.
But afterward I regretted it. How could I let my firstborn child go like that? I missed her. I wanted her back. But it was too late.
My subconscious doesn’t do subtle.

Look at her, all big and grown up! Many emotions flowed through her parents today, I bet.
what a cutie!
her backpack is HUGE. make sure you don’t fill it too full. can’t recall what the weight ratio is for backpack to body mass.
check it out.
What was in her backpack? Are you sure she didn’t have SBJ in there?
Thank you for sharing the picture. Such mixed emotions on such a day.
No kidding about you not “doing subtle” in your dreams! Just the beginning of many big transitions. Thinking of you.
Wow.
Love the backpack and hope to hear about the lunchbox.
It’s going to be okay and actually it’s going to be great. Can’t wait to hear how it went for her.
Her backpack was especially full the first day, because she was carrying lots of bulky school supplies, like tissues and a bottle of Purell.
Today she’s got a small quilt that a woman at the church made her when she was born, to be used during rest time. Hopefully by tomorrow it’ll just be papers and the occasional library book.
In a nutshell, she had a great day, but she didn’t like the bus too much. I think once she figures out what she’s doing and how to get from place to place she’ll like it fine.
What a wonderful picture. Hope the dreams improve.
We’re not there yet, but it’s coming soon…
I can’t believe my little Petite CG rides a bus to kindergarten! Sigh.
I still remember what I wore on the first day of school back in 1959…but no lunchbox as kindergarten was still 1/2 day. RM and R - hold fast to these memories!
Awwwww! I remember those days when mine were that little. Now it’s my Princess Granddaughter and Cowboy who are off to school. So interesting that they have to go off to school with a box of Kleenex and some Purell. For all we talk about our vaunted school systems, they still don’t supply some very common-sense items to teachers, and parents are expected to send them in to the classroom. Something wrong about that.
She looks reasonably happy and excited about all this. You will survive this transition, RM!
Aw, she’s very cute. I hope the bad dreams end soon.
I do have to say I’m a little stuck with the jacket she’s wearing. It’s cold enough for a jacket there? Sigh…
Yay, C! You go girl.
just recalled that on the first day of kindergarten for each child i shed a tear or two after putting them on the bus. then later when i left them each at college i did the same. and it seemed like the time between those two baptisms simply flew past! enjoy each day of this adventure. it moves so very quickly!
Am I the only one who tears up at all first-day-of-school pix?
