Still here.
We’re getting ready to leave on Saturday for State with Rocky Coast. We haven’t been there since the divine miss M was a five-month-old teething maniac. Who insisted on getting up for the day at 4:45 a.m. In a cottage in which there was someone sleeping in every available room. Good times, that you […]

My daughter is a freak!

Mind you, she typically does not search for them. She looks down and plucks them up like you’d pick a dandelion.
Have a lucky day!

Dear little she-who-is…
I am always observing you and your siblings doing funny and smart and annoying and wonderful stuff, and am forever composing in my head some notes about these precious things, because I know I will forget them. You also love stories about past events so I want to be ready with some details. […]

Yesterday Bruce remarked on Facebook that he would like to set aside the idea of balance in his life. He described it as “restrictive, ineffective and unrealistic.”
His comment got me thinking about the physiological notion of balance, for example on a tightrope, which is not really about a person walking a perfectly straight path, […]

aside: j stats

18 month ped visit for sweet baby j: 32 inches tall, 31.4 pounds. About 94%ile. Slightly behind on language, but he’s making progress. No concerns. He continues to have some patches of eczema, especially around the eyes, which we’re monitoring. Possible allergy test at 2? Otherwise, happy happy boy.

This is a shout out to my cousin, whose book Letting Go of Perfect: Overcoming Perfectionism in Kids was just released. Brava!
I had a chance to read/skim the book last night and got a lot out of it. The authors profile five kinds of perfectionists, and I could see myself and/or my kids in a […]

I’m still standin’…. yeah! yeah! yeah!

“In the summer I have fun in Maine looking for garnets. In the summer I like to go to the swimming pool. I play with bubbles.”
It’s the “duds” for “bubbles” that makes it art.

Obama: The Historic Journey, Young Reader’s Edition
The New York Times
A Review for MotherTalk
You know I am an addict of all things Obama. On the one hand that means that I’m not altogether objective about Obamaphernalia. On the other hand, being in the Nation’s Capital I have seen a LOT of Obama stuff, not all of […]

This is a bouquet of paper cranes that a friend and former parishioner delivered to my office… along with an original poem.
Thank you, anne.

aside: worship resources

I’ve got a little project cooking that relates to resources for worship. If you are a pastor and/or worship leader and wouldn’t mind filling out a short non-scientific survey, drop me a line or comment here.

Back from the Motherland.
I took this picture on a walk to the cross. Anyone know what this plant is? The base of it is very spiky, like a yucca plant.
Had a great time. The women were lovely and very affirming. People are hungry for good liturgy, it seems.
R did a great job, with lots […]
