Autumn
Rainer Maria Rilke
The leaves fall, fall as if from far away,
like withered things from gardens deep in sky;
they fall with gestures of renunciation.
And through the night the heavy earth falls too,
down from the stars, into the loneliness.
And we all fall. This hand must fall.
Look everywhere: it is the lot of all.
Yet there is one who […]

Starting today and working backward:
has had a very satisfying day of sermon-writing.
Just got an e-mail from M, courtesy of her day-care provider: “Mom I want you to bring new clothes, because my other clothes got wet and I don’t like the pants.”
[Update: I don’t need anymore clothes because they have dried and I am very […]

The little boy in this story died last night.
In life and in death we belong to God.

Today is R’s and my 15th wedding anniversary. Hard to believe.
From the archives… two pieces:
——-
i don’t believe in soul mates
i don’t believe in
soul mates,
The One,
you complete me,
i’ve been waiting for a girl like you,
a feeling deep in your soul says you were half now you’re whole.
but i did have a dream once:
i stood outside my […]

Before the status updates begin… we’ve been doing some shifting in our dining room. I’ve talked for a while about doing something with that room, and finally decided not to let the perfect be the enemy of the good… so I turned the room into an art and craft space, just using the furniture we […]

C really wants to be Word Girl for Halloween.
Any hints for assembling such a costume?
And yes, J is SO gonna be Captain Huggy Face.

Poor R is home sick today… are you thinking what I’m thinking? LOST MARATHON!
shopping for a MacBook. I might have to “like” my own post…
First day home by myself in more than a week. Looking forward to getting some writing done and getting ready for… what was it again? Oh yeah, starting a new job […]

I’m back from my little trip to see the Tiny Church family in the hospital in Midwestern City. It was a hard visit, but I’m glad I went. Also, it snowed. On October 10.
I had written a note to the kids on the big whiteboard in the kitchen, and wrote down the days so […]

(’Cause I can’t resist alliterations…)

MaDear bought these light-up bracelets from some guy in the parking lot of the U2 concert… I cannot believe how long they have lasted.

1. I make very good use of my staycations, as many of the following numbers will show.
2. Today I got out the winter hand-me-downs for M, packed up her clothes for donation, and put away C’s clothes for summer 2011. Yes, this is all a pain.
3. Part of the challenge is that M much […]

So I wanted to share some memories of my farewell dinner before I forgot them. I’ve been given a video of the event but I haven’t watched it yet.
The meeting house of SPC was decorated like the Great Hall of Hogwarts. There was a rectangular table lengthwise in the front with candelabra, gargoyles, and a […]

Going back in time…
Turned in the key.
needed to drive C to the bus stop because of her ankle, but R had removed the seats from the van because I’m loading it with my office stuff today. A classic Didn’t Think This Through moment from the reverendfamily.
Unplugging for the evening–under the covers with a mug […]

aside: chunky babies

A four-month-old baby in Colorado has been denied health insurance because he is too fat. Sweet Baby J weighed two pounds more than this kid at that age. Guess I should thank my lucky stars? Geez.
