A review for MotherTalk
The Pregnancy Journal by A. Christine Harris
I received this book in the mail a couple of weeks ago and set it aside: This won’t take long to review… a few thought-provoking paragraphs about pregnancy amid lots of empty space.
Yesterday I opened it. Oops. There’s tons of great info in this book.
This […]
A review for MotherTalk
The Working Woman’s Pregnancy Book by Marjorie Greenfield
Pregnancy is a huge topic, but let’s face it: there’s only so much you can say about it. There are lots of books out there and the difference is often not in the content, but in the tone. Some books are cutesy, others alarmist, […]
Does breaking one’s toe give one a chance to practice pain-coping techniques for labor?
Yes it does, though at least in labor the pain comes and goes, with a break between contractions.
Am I just the most pathetic specimen of a human being at this point?
Yes, I am.
Is it time for this to be over?
Most definitely.
From the informed consent form the midwives’ office gave me to read and sign:
Specific risks associate with cesarean section performed during labor are scaring to mother…
No protein in the pee this time! Woo-hoo!
Big Girl Bed, Night #2: The divine miss M is sleeping well; have heard nary a peep. Unfortunately, for me the late pregnancy night wakings have begun.
I did something to my back. I think it happened on Friday. I woke up sore yesterday, but we went to the fall festival and to a church event in the evening. I was a little stiff but it felt good to walk around. But this morning I couldn’t move without sound effects, so R […]
I take some comfort in the fact that, while we’ve had 90 degree days this week, today (83) is probably the hottest I will ever be while pregnant again.
So I’ve shared this in bits and pieces, but here is the skinny (bad pun) on RM at 32 weeks pregnant:
So at last Monday’s midwife appointment I again had the protein pee. Based on this, and the fact that my 24 hour test from two weeks ago showed protein (though not in alarming amounts), the […]
Lab results are in; the pee pee problem is just fine.
In what universe is it appropriate to ask someone, “Were you this big last time you were pregnant?”
Never mind that that idiot comment was outnumbered 10 to 1 by the “You look great!” comments.
And in case you’re wondering: retired female, in the greeting line after church.
Of course I stared at her blankly.
The best, most wicked […]
…but it’s starting to feel like it.
I would really love a glass of port right now.
Don’t pregnant women need pockets in our trousers too? With all the indignities of pregnancy, can’t we just have a modicum of convenience too? Just sayin’.
I am already getting “Was this baby planned?” questions. It is nobody’s business unless I opt to tell you. Any suggestions for responses that are pithy but not rude? I am announcing tomorrow, so quick responses are appreciated (though I can tell the questions will continue for quite some time).
So it was 1 year, 11 months ago that I posted the previous pregnancy FAQ. Life is strange.
Here’s what I know…
When are you due?
And right here is reason #1 why I was dreading telling my colleague in ministry:
November 30: another “Get out of Christmas free!” card
(Told her today; she took it fine.)So BB and M […]
See you on the flip side.
Once upon a time, in the beginning,
a labor of love was undertaken.
It started with a sign, to show that something was about to happen. Light came forth from the deep darkness, bright, clear and unmistakable.
And it was very good.
At the second time, the waters were broken. At first, they gushed, […]
Top ten reasons why the reverendbaby did not come on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day:
10. Deference to her Lord and Savior.
9. Mother did not have access to a donkey, or a need to travel to her husband’s town of origin for a census.
8. Decided that Christmas dinner—ham with brown sugar/mustard glaze, wild rice pilaf with […]
In great hope that this will be the final part, although I have nothing on which to base that hope…
What I would have missed yesterday and today:
• I feel virtuous because I did triple-recycling duty yesterday—dropped off some plastic bags that were springing out of our over-full pantry whenever we opened the door; took some […]
Before I get to the update, please say a prayer or send out some good thoughts for ChaplainMom, whose Big A. is in the hospital after getting his adenoids removed last week. He has RSV, which is a fairly common virus in children but it’s wreaking havoc on his respiratory system. They’ve got him on […]
