first
i used to lay in bed,
while he read dr. seuss
by golden lamplight
to a jostling bump.
i spread books out on the table,
charted progress,
made lists,
mapped out precise routes
to my destination,
her.
i moved—
slipping through shiny blue waters,
pounding feet on an incessant path,
shifting in and out of eagle pose.
i retreated
with my stowaway:
unpacked a few belongings
in a trailer on top of […]

A perfectly round midsection appeared on the black and white screen, and the ultrasound technician measured it. With a few buttons and mouse clicks she threw a dotted circle around it like a lasso. Organs swam in and out of view. Kidneys… stomach… And then: “It’s a girl!” The announcement came like a shot, and […]

OK, here’s your chance to suggest names, seriously or sardonically, for the reverendbaby, who will be known provisionally as Gertie… after I told pastorg that I love old-fashioned names, like, that were popular in the early 20th century. I threw out Gertrude as an example, although I actually don’t like that name terribly much, but […]

Time for something fun.
Given the following:
Tomorrow is our 20-week ultrasound, during which we can find out the sex of the baby, assuming he/she isn’t overly modest, or ornery;
When I first suspected I was pregnant, I had an incredibly strong BOY vibe, which has since subsided;

Wish us luck! And […]

Here’s what I know…
When are you due?
Are you ready for a chuckle? The reverendchild is due in late December. I vow never to do the combined Christmas/birthday gift, but still, that poor little preacher’s kid…
How are you feeling?
Pretty much like last time. A little tired, a little queasy, a few food aversions, but as long […]

…for National Poetry Month.
Ah well. It’s too wonderful not to share.
Metaphors
I’m a riddle in nine syllables.
An elephant, a ponderous house,
A melon strolling on two tendrils.
O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers!
This loaf’s big with its yeasty rising.
Money’s new-minted in this fat purse.
I’m a means, a stage, a cow in calf.
I’ve eaten a bag of green apples,
Boarded […]
